An acoustic experience

CIRCUIT TRAINING - JR Isaac -
It was my first time to watch a live acoustic performance at the NBC Tent, the Philip Morris 100’s Strings and Sofas. The Tent was transformed into a music hall, but unlike the usual seating arrangement, sofas and lounge chairs were arranged for a relaxing mood. Guests were comfortably hanging out and conversing with their friends, while being entertained by the music at the same time. The concert featured performances by Paolo Santos, Cooky Chua and Noel Cabangon. It was a privilege to watch the top acoustic performers in our country all in one night.

At the show, it was noticeable how jazz and standard sentimental music blended together. There was also ’60s and ’70s music performed in acoustic style. My favorite that night was the ’90s alternative music rendered in the same style. It was noticeable how each artist’s repertoire was meticulously selected and arranged per theme, accompanied by an ensemble such as the acoustic guitar, piano, violin, viola, bass and percussion. And what made the concert even more enjoyable were the overflowing cocktails and canapés.

FRANCES MERCADO

Where do you go for acoustic band music?

I normally go to Tapika in Katipunan to listen to live acoustic performances. They have a good lineup of bands and the food is also good. Plus it’s near where I live.

JOANNA ALDEA

Why do you listen to acoustic music?

It is ginseng for the soul. It is my immediate mind and body relaxant.

SHEILA ROMERO

Who was the first acoustic artist you watched and listened to?

The first was Cookie Chua. Her performance was spectacular, especially her rendition of Don’t Know Why.

ANNA MONTENERO

When is the best time to listen to your favorite music?

I always listen to music when I take a shower before going to bed. The music of Sarah Mclachlan, Aimee Mann and sometimes a little Jack Johnson puts me in a relaxed mood.

GUTHRIE COLLADO

What was the vibe at the Strings and Sofas concert?

Strings and Sofas had an excellent vibe. It was relaxed, comfortable, unpretentious.

BOBBY TANJUATCO

Who do you prefer listening to acoustic music with?

I’d rather be by myself. It’s music I like listening to when winding down–which I prefer to do alone.

NINA MONTELIBANO

What song do you sing while in the shower?

I normally sing Frank Sinatra’s New York, New York while looking out the window in my shower which overlooks the city. The skyline of Manila is far from New York’s but it is the closest I can get to my favorite city!

RHYCEL MARCELO

What was the inspiration behind Strings and Sofas?

We’ve always wanted to offer a different kind of acoustic experience, something that people won’t find in any other ordinary acoustic bar and can only experience through PM 100’s.

ANTHONY SAN PEDRO

What kind of music do you out chill to?

I like listening to Nora Jones. The music is soothing and calming – like the world at peace.

CHUCK JANOLINO

What song would you sing to convince your date you’re ready to commit?

The song would be Love Song by Celtic new age instrumentalist Ronan Hardiman. Like true love, it’s only got a few lyrics but has a deep complex melody that is rich in emotion.

TOY MAGTAAS

What song made you sing along at the concert?

The song would be King of Pain because I am a big Sting fan! Plus, I’m always on pain killers.

JAY-JAY HERRADURA

How often do you listen to acoustic music?

I listen to acoustic music every day in the car after work. The music helps me relax while driving.
