Party like it’s 1999!

Filipinos were really born to party. This longing for the good life is a truly visible character of the people. During those four dangerous days of the 1986 EDSA Revolution, the atmosphere was surprisingly very festive, similar to a town fiesta. Despite the fact that the nation’s shaky future was at stake, boisterous fun overwhelmed everyone. It was this camaraderie which played a key factor in the succeeding events which led to a peaceful resolution and meriting well-deserved kudos in modern history books.

Filipino attitudes towards partying are definitely legendary. Everyone will come up with the most creative excuses just to have a good time. Very recently, Absinth did just that on a Monday night. A text blast was sent saying "Celebrate Life. One Love…A Christmas Party of Love & Unity". This message certainly piqued my curiosity especially when Absinth’s famed femme fatale Christine San Diego followed it up with a phone call to give me a more detailed description of the hastily planned shebang.

Defying all conventions, she had invited NBK DJ Manolet Dario to play house and Balearic tunes, combining it with Flava Street’s DJ Steve Mills blend of hip hop and R&B. Did that line-up put your head into a spin? Indeed, it was a rare mix of entertainment to start off the week. The night started strongly with club anthems which kept the crowd quite comfortable. Listening to the Pet Shop Boys’ famed style of electronic dance music was definitely worth going out on a Monday night, and was too tempting for my feet to just stay put. The eclectic ambience definitely gave the night a new dimension.

The delight of watching DJ Manolet Dario and DJ Steve Mills together at the elevated DJ podium outside the bar was a sight and sound to behold. Their passion for music was kept the night’s energy level high.

House heads and R&B fans who were there that night would agree that it was indeed, quite an exhilarating experience.
