What began as an American dream became an American tradition when the Marciano brothers of France introduced the stonewashed, 3-zip Marilyn jeans in 1998 – and Guess? was born. The 3-zip Marilyn jeans was sexy. Bloomingdale’s agreed to sell some two dozen pairs and within hours, the entire stock was sold out.
Guess? infiltrated popular culture and created groundbreaking advertising campaigns featuring sexy, sultry models previously unknown in the industry and turned them into superstars overnight. Models such as Claudia Schiffer, Carre Otis, Eva Herzigova and Naomi Campbell launched their careers in the original Guess? campaigns.
In the ’80s, Guess? products expanded beyond men’s and women’s jeans and Baby Guess? Guess? Watches, Guess? Footwear, Guess? Eyewear and Guess? Parfum were created. The ’90s, saw rapid international expansion bringing the Guess? American tradition to South America, Europe, Asia, Africa and Australia.
This year, Guess? celebrated its 20th year with a grand bash at the Wilshire Ebel Theater.
Manila joined the celebration by hosting its own party recently at the NBC Tent at The Fort. Main highlight was a gala fashion presentation with models Ivy Vong, Joy Caralde, Gladys and Girly Benitez, Michelle Reyes, Kookoo Ganigan and Verns Buckley.
Rage Band featuring Juan Miguel Salvador and Marissa Bunag stepped onstage with hits of the ’80s and kept the party alive and kickin’ ’til midnight. Spotted while dancing the night away were talent manager Angeli Pangilinan, Eddie Gutierrez, Pinky Amador, Carlo Orosa, Jessa Zaragoza, Dingdong Avanzado, Renee Salud, Jenine Desiderio and Jamie Rivera. Ruffa Gutierrez hosted the event.
