The ‘uncomplicated’ Avril Lavigne
October 29, 2002 | 12:00am
A skater-punk, a dynamic spirit, a true wild child, Avril Lavigne is anything but ordinary. She started impressing people with her voice at the tender age of two. When she hit her teens, she took off on her own and honed her songwriting skills in New York City and Los Angeles. The 17-year old girl wants to reach stardom completely on her own terms. "I’m just coming out and I’m going to clearly be myself  I write what I feel, I never worry what others think," says Avril. "I’m gonna dress what’s me, act what’s me and sing what’s me."
Avril does exactly that on her debut album, "Let Go," under BMG Records (Pilipinas). The first single, the guitar-driven Complicated, has entered the international and local music charts. "Complicated wasn’t written about anyone in particular. It is basically about life, people being fake, and relationships."
Avril, who won the Best New Female Artist award in the recently concluded MTV Video Music Awards 2002, says she wants people to know her music is real and honest. "It came from the heart. I was just being true to myself," shares Avril.
"Let Go," Avril Lavigne’s debut platter is now available in CDs and cassettes in music stores nationwide.
