Private Pilot, a general aviation magazine, conducted to 2002 Sunglasses Optics Shootout Test, and Oakley — topped call categories.

The test was determined by grading the world’s most popular sunglass models available in retail according to the following criteria: refractive power (a measure of the ability of a lens to focus light rays), astigmatism (a condition in a lens of a protector in which there is a difference in refractive power in one meridian from that of another meridian), prismatic power (a measurement of the angular deviation in a light ray after passing along the viewing path through a lens) and resolving power or definition (the measure of the ability of a lens to form separate distinct images of two objects together). The results were measured in diopter, unit of measurement used to express the power of a lens.

The sunglass category was topped by the Oakley X Metal Juliet with a score of 95.21 diopters with the Carrera 130 GEA placing second at 89.58. Oakley X-Metal Juliet bested other popular entries in this category such as the Persol 2077-S (3rd), Rudy Project Special Comp (5th), Ray Ban 4003 Predator Z-Warp (6th), Nike Monza (10th) and Killer Loop Zenit (19th). Oakley X-Metal Juliet is known for its flex couplers that allow this 25-piece blend of X-Metal and art to fit naturally around the skull. Its adjustable frame includes temple shocks, interchangeable nosebombs and all the innovations that sculptural physics can offer. Juliet is the latest model of Oakley’s X Metal series, the only 3-D sculptured, hypoallergenic of all metal frames on earth.

Topping the Polarized category is the Oakley 20, with the nearest competitor Killer Loop The Snoop. Oakley 20 bested other popular entries in its category such as Dragon Rake (3rd), Armani 1521 (5th), Ray Ban 3119 (ninth), Quicksilver Cosmo (10th) and Nike V6 (21st).

The Oakley Zero.4 topped the shield category followed by Rudy Project Pycoon. The Oakley Zero.4 is so lightweight, you’ll think the name refers to gravity.

The results further confirmed Oakley’s 25 year legacy of expertise and excellence in eyewear technology.
