Nicolei Spirig, hotshot athlete
March 24, 2002 | 12:00am
You catch a glimpse of him walking down the school corridor. You watch, transfixed, as he blocks a soccer ball from reaching its goal. In the basketball court, you cheer him on as he jumps for a slam-dunk.
He is the hotshot athlete who could very well be the most exciting varsity player to strut his stuff in your campus in a long while. The one guy whose stride is confident and sure. No shuffling here. No tentative steps. He is the one guy whose gaze you want to melt into yours.
And that’s exactly what made 14-year-old Nicolei Spirig Bench’s new man on campus. The 5’10" freshman student at Colegio de San Agustin is breezy, affable and open. His effervescent energy and boundless charm go well with Bench’s smart shirts.
Nicolei, garbed in Bench gear, is such a cool and commanding presence. Whether he’s sauntering into Science Lab in a blue cotton shirt and a pair of jeans, or going through soccer or basketball practice in a red shirt and white athletic shorts.
And both Nicolei and Bench know that there’s no better playground than that field of green and that polished hard court where each goal scored is more than just a number.
