Scottish Bagpipes with Alexander Invade The Republic
November 22, 2001 | 12:00am
Multi-award winning indie artist Cynthia Alexander is joined by the British Airways Pipe Band for an evening of ethereal music this Thursday, November 22, 2001 at the Republic of Malate for the benefit of the children of Payatas.
The British Airways Pipe Band is a group of bagpipe players flown in every year to promote Scottish culture through performances of the best in pipe music and Scottish dancing. This year, they are in Manila to help the local expatriate community celebrate an important holiday in Scotland, St. Andrew's Day.
Cynthia Alexander has made her mark in the local music scene with her unique brand of sublime celestial music with a tinge of ethnicity. Through her marriage to Scottish marine biologist Boyd Alexander, Cynthia claims the music of the Highlands as one of her influences, strongly evidenced in her sophomore outing "Rippingyarns" available through indie-label N/A Records.
These two groups come together for the benefit of the Mango Tree House, which supports abused, neglected & abandoned children of Metro Manila. This rare, once in a lifetime event is made possible through British Airways, Republic of Malate, Crown Relocations Philippines, and N/A Records.
At the Republic of Malate, A. Mabini St., Manila. Tickets at P300, show starts at 9:30 p.m.
