Among the teen queens scrambling to keep their respective thrones, I¹ve always believed that Christina Aguilera rightfully deserves the crown.

She can act, she can dance, and when it comes to singing, honey, Christina can work it!

Aside from her vocal achievements, Christina¹s multi-format success

Across the board sets her apart. Sure, her compatriots can always romp around while scantily clad, but who among them is not afraid to rock it with someone like Fred Durst, lace it with Missy Elliott, Rokwilder, Li’l Kim, Pink, and Mya, and then get down with Ricky Martin? After conquering the pop, adult contemporary and club markets, she has set her eyes on winning over her Latin roots with this album, which virtually serves as a Spanish version of her debut disc.

The familiar tunes are all here, though now rendered not-so-familiarly:

‘Genio Atrapado’ (‘Genie in a Bottle’), ‘Ven Conmigo (Solamente Tu)’

(‘Come on Over Baby [All I Want is You]’), ‘Por Siempre Tu’ (‘I Turn to You’), ‘Una Mujer’ (‘What a Girl Wants’), and ‘Mi Reflejo’ (‘Reflection’). Although the new Spanish versions may jar those who loved the originals, the songs on this album are well worth a listen. Her performance on these numbers just proves that her appeal does not lie in the language, but is really all about her powerful pop dream of a voice.

There are gems worth investigating, like the dancey ‘Falsas Esperanzas’

And the deliriously enchanting ‘Pero Me Acuerdo De Ti,’ in which our

Heroine shows off her vocal prowess to the hilt. You may wonder where our heroine gets that powerful voice, considering her pint-sized body, but fans like me know to stop wondering and just enjoy the music.
