STAR STUFF (Hollywood Hunks)
October 25, 2001 | 12:00am
They’re the guys we’d love to be with. So why not…check them out!
Heath Ledger
Australian hottie Heath Ledger seems to be following in the footsteps of fellow-Aussie Mel Gibson, in the "Aussie Hunk captures Hollywood's heart" fashion. He broke into the spotlight with the Shakespeare-inspired teen flick, 10 Things I Hate About You, with Julia Stile. The 21-year old got his start in the biz doing musical theater back home in Perth. Then he moved on to appear in the TV series Roar, an action-adventure show in the manner of Hercules and Xena (Felicity's Keri Russel played his wife!), which, sadly, flopped. His film Two Hands, was also a big hit in the Sundance Film Festival. Heath became a full-fledged star when he was cast as Mel Gibson's son in the epic drama The Patriot. This year, he tries it out on his own in the period comedy film A Knight's Tale. – CMT
Joshua Jackson
A wise person once quipped, "Someone should stop calling the show 'Dawson's Creek.' After all, it's Pacey who's really got it going." True, considering Pacey's the guy who's now got the girl (Joey played by the pretty Katie Holmes). Not many people may remember Joshua Jackson as the adorable team captain, Charlie Conway, of the hit kiddie Disney flick Mighty Ducks, and its two sequels. He lay low after that, only to surface with a big bang in the cult teen TV series Dawson's Creek, playing the rebel/hero Pacey Witter. After that, film offers started pouring in, where he was cast in major roles in films like Scream 2, Apt Pupil, Urban Legends, Cruel Intentions, The Skulls, and Gossip. Despite the movies, it's still Pacey, Joey's unbelievably understanding and supportive boyfriend, that makes the hearts of teenage girls beat fast. - CMT
Scott Speedman
It's easy to tell why so many girls are tune in to the hit series Felicity, even if it's on a week night. It's probably coz they've caught 'Ben' fever. Scott Speedman, 26, surely has a way of raising temperatures up a notch. Not many people know that Scott was asked to audition for the role of Robin in Batman Forever (which went to Chris O' Donnell). But it was his character as Ben Covington, Felicity's resident hunk, that made him a star. His appeal can be described as a cross between the angst-ridden Sean Penn and the golden boy good looks of Brad Pitt. As a matter of fact, when Gwyneth Paltrow and Brad Pitt broke up, Scott was tapped to play the role meant for Brad Pitt in Duets. Speaking of which, Scott is part of a 'duet,' as rumor mills confirm that (sigh) he and Keri Russell. Some gossipmongers also report that the two are already engaged. Although the two, admittedly, look adorable together (grumble, grumble), the engagement issue is likely to be another wild rumor! . Well, on and off screen, Keri gets her man...and what a man! - MV
Josh Hartnett
Who can forget Josh Hartnett, the puppy-dog eyed actor who wooed, loved and broke his heart to Leelee Sobieski in Here On Earth? The romantic drama set in stone Josh's name in the list of America's young heartthrobs. That's a far cry from his first acting job in a Northwestern Airlines commercial (Hey, you gotta start somewhere right?) His first big break was a role in the TV sitcom Cracker. Afterwards, he starred as Jamie Lee Curtis' son in H2O, the 20th anniversary sequel to the slasher flick Halloween. Most recently, Josh stars in the highly controversial movie Pearl Harbor with co-stars Ben Affleck, Kate Beckinsale, Cuba Gooding, John Voight, and Alec Baldwin. The story is set during the time of the Pearl Harbor bombing where a romance unfolds amidst the war drama. Josh as usual has the shorter end of the stick since he falls in love with his supposedly dead brother's girl, only to find that his brother is alive. This is his first big break and reviews on his performa! nce have been very positive. People are like, Ben who?? Hmm...looks like we're having a Josh Hartnett moment. - MV
