MARES, SSI open subsidiary, scuba academy in Phl

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - MARES Spa Italy, the world’s leading brand of state-of-the-art diving equipment, and HEAD, the world’s leading racquet sports brand endorsed by top-ranked tennis players Novak Djokovic and Maria Sharapova, recently acquired Scuba Schools International (SSI), the world’s second-largest scuba diving organization.

SSI is the name to trust in the diving world as it has provided training, scuba diving certification, and educational resources for divers, dive instructors, dive centers and resorts around the world.

When it comes to depth and quality of training materials, dive centers around the world turn to SSI, which started out in 1970 and is now represented in more than 110 countries.

MARES Spa Italy made its biggest splash for the year with the inaugural launch of its headquarters, flagship store and scuba diving academy in the Philippines.

Raising its global profile from its home base in Italy to the Asian region, the launch is anchored on the joint venture between MARES Spa Italy and Dynamic Sports Corp., a leading wholesaler and retailer of sports equipment in the Philippines such as HEAD, and parent company of MARES.

The presence of MARES and its acquisition of SSI thus paved the way for the opening of Scuba Academy Manila at Vistamar building, 7805 St. Paul Road corner Mayapis Street in San Antonio Village, Makati City.

The Scuba Academy Manila will feature a beach-like setting that will serve scuba diving enthusiasts in the Philippines, with the hope of helping inspire and share the excitement on this popular form of underwater diving.

For this important milestone, MARES Philippines general manager Dieter Heinz led guests during the grand launch. Other guests included MARES/SSI president Gerald Skrobanek, Tourism Secretary Ramon Jimenez, and MARES Philippines co-owner Christopher Tang, among others.

Through the years, the training pool in San Antonio Village has been the polestar for divers in Metro Manila until it underwent major renovations. Now the training pool will be brought back to its old glory with the restoration.

Everyone will truly enjoy the beach-like ambiance by the pool that can host up to 20 divers at the same time. Then unwind and share special moments with loved ones and friends at the nearby Divers Café.

Also found at the ground floor of the diving school is the MARES Philippines headquarters and flagship store, which has served as a one-stop solution to everyone’s diving needs.
