DHL Express joins P-Noy in welcoming OFWs

The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Last Dec. 21, DHL Express joined President Aquino, the Overseas Workers Welfare Administration (OWWA) and other corporate sponsors to welcome over 500 overseas Filipino workers (OFWs) at the Ninoy Aquino International Airport (NAIA).

The OFWs returned home to spend the holiday season with their families.

“This is the first year that DHL Express is taking part in this initiative and it is indeed an experience for us. The contributions made by these overseas Filipino workers are invaluable and we applaud the government’s gesture in recognizing their efforts,” said Nurhayati Abdullah, country manager of DHL Express Philippines.

“As the world’s most international company, DHL can offer them reliable and timely express services, no matter which part of the world they are in, when sending their packages back home to their loved ones,” Abdullah added.

The annual presidential welcome, now into its 19th year, is the government’s way of showing appreciation for the OFWs for their contributions to the country’s economy.

The 500 OFWs who arrived from Qatar and Dubai were given the distinct honor of a “presidential salubong (welcome)” as part of the government’s annual Christmas offering (Pamaskong Handog).

During the reception, the OFWs were each given a goodie bag. A handful of lucky individuals each received thousands of pesos in cash, gift checks and savings accounts from the OWWA and other government agencies.

DHL Express Philippines also gave away gift certificates to three recipients in a raffle draw at the event.
