Skechers Streetdance Battle 8 kicks off with a big bang at Mall of Asia

MANILA, Philippines - Everyone’s energy was on a high as 21 participating high schools showed their fiercest moves onstage in an epic streetdance showdown at the recent Skechers Streetdance Battle 8 kick-off party and the first of its elimination series held at SM Mall of Asia’s Music Hall in Pasay City. 

At night’s end, the crowd went wild as the top 10 high school dance crews were hailed supreme, moving up the ranks to the Final Battle on Nov. 17 at Mall of Asia Arena for another adrenaline-pumping dance face-off.

The 10 high school dance crews vying to earn bragging rights as the country’s ultimate dance crew are: Indayog ng Atenistang Kabataan (INDAK) of Ateneo de Manila High School; Claret Hataw of Claret School of Quezon City; LSGH Airforce of La Salle Greenhills; High Impact of Marist School-Marikina; Sayawatha Dance Troupe of Miriam College; DANSSA School of St. Anthony; Terpsichore of St. Paul College-Pasig; Dance X of Xavier School; CSA Dance Troupe of Colegio San Agustin; and Campus Image Revolve of St. Mark’s Institute.

Skechers Streetdance Battle again proved that it’s the one battle that counts as it drew a full house of streetdance fans rooting for their favorite dance crews.

Since its inception, Skechers has become the biggest and hottest streetdance showdown in streetdance history.

The streetdance battle for the high school category was a visual spectacle of streetdancing at its best. Dance crews showed the best mix of streetdance moves — krumping, popping, locking, breaking, and hip hop — uniquely injecting their own swagger style and technique matched with brimming confidence and fierce attitude. 

People were all fired up as 21 participating high schools battled it out on the floor with 10 making it past the eliminations.

Event highlights included the Skechers Streetdance Battle 8 signature dance tutorial by hip dance choreographer Prince Paltu-ob, and the dance performance by The Crew, the World Hip Hop 2012 champion, as the show’s opening salvo. 

There was also the Skechers Streetstyle Fashion Show featuring all the school participants, followed by the Skechers Freestyle School Battle where duos from each dance crew were pitted against each other in an exhilarating dance exhibition. 

The girls ruled as the crowd cheered and clapped for St. Paul Pasig’s Terpsichore duo, beating rival Xavier School’s Dance X. 

Watch out for the two-day college category elimination series until today at SM City Fairview and on Oct. 7 and 13 at SM City San Lazaro. 

The dance crews on top of the heap in the elimination rounds will join the colossal streetdance showdown, the Final Battle, on Nov. 17 at the Mall of Asia Arena.

Aside from bagging P100,000 cash each for the winning high school and college dance crews, they will be hailed as the ultimate dance crews.
