The Baguio way of celebrating

- Lester Gopela Hallig - The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines - Yes, some of us actually go up to Baguio for reasons other than summer. It could be a birthday celebration, a christening or a wedding. In some instances, it’s a seminar or a meeting. Venue is very much part of the equation, as it is crucial in setting the tone of the occasion.

Chalet Baguio, a quaint hotel along the city’s Upper Military Cutoff Road, has increasingly become the choice of travelers looking for a place to celebrate a milestone or to just simply celebrate, period.

A closer inspection reveals that Chalet Baguio boasts of the cleanest, most comfortable rooms, and good food (always a winning combination in our book). Founded in 2011, this new establishment is part of the growing Sanmar Hotels & Resorts, a group of hotels with a diversified market, from economy to deluxe.

Chalet Baguio maintains that “Baguio feeling,” with its 60 well-appointed rooms featuring breathtaking views of the mountains and pine trees. These rooms are available in standard, superior, deluxe double/twin, premiere, and family suite configurations. There is no getting around the fact that travelers come up to Baguio for this specific view, and it is a good thing that the hotel has it in abundance.

The same can be said about Chalet Baguio’s features. It has eight exclusive rooms at the Executive Lounge Family KTV. Fact is, this is the hotel’s top attraction, a must for guests who want to let their hair down and enjoy a rollicking good time over hefty servings of finger foods, signature cocktails, and other drinks. The KTV, with its modern design, showcases a crystal-clear sound system unmatched thereabouts. It is open until 2 am.

Chalet Baguio offers free-flowing coffee from 6 a.m. to 10 p.m. During those hours, too, guests can claim their breakfast — a brilliant idea for those who want to take their favorite breakfast fare any time.

The hotel has partnered with Dulcinea, the respected Spanish-inspired restaurant. The partnership has allowed both parties to offer a pleasing combination of food and ambience in a Baguio setting.

Fans of Dulcinea’s best-selling Churros con Chocolate can enjoy it here, as well as its famous house blend coffee, Paella Valenciana, Lengua, and Tuhod y Batok, among other favorites.

Its location is likewise a plus. It is near the Victory Liner bus terminal, SM City, Session Road, and the city proper. Guests definitely won’t miss out on the action should they decide to explore the city more.

If the outside life proves too cold, then by all means find warmth inside the hotel. The staff’s hospitality and accommodating ways go the extra mile as they are always available. This sense of accommodation is clearly evident whenever guests are given clean fresh linen, toiletries, and other amenities.

These days are a perfect opportunity to try out Chalet Baguio and its value-for-money offerings. Still ongoing is the 20 percent off on published rates until December. It is part of the hotel’s intensive efforts to promote and introduce the hotel.

Travelers must watch out for the upcoming Unlimited Churros con Chocolate Afternoons as well as the monthly events and promos, achieved by “liking” the fanpage on Facebook.

So we say: give Chalet Baguio a try and be impressed by its offerings. No doubt about it, the celebrations start here.
