Davis Cup back at Plantation Bay Resort & Spa
MANILA, Philippines - For the second time in just six months, the Plantation Bay Resort and Spa is playing host to the world’s toughest men’s team tennis competition, the Davis Cup, with the staging of the Asia-Oceania Zone’s Philippines-Chinese Taipei tie on Sept. 16 to 18.
It’s a rare chance that a country gets to host two Davis Cup events in a year.
The impressive hosting of the resort along with the Lapu-Lapu City government of the Philippines versus Japan tie last March paved the way for the Philippine Tennis Association (PHILTA) to offer another tie here.
There were several other places in the country that signified interest in hosting a Davis Cup battle, but Plantation Bay Resort and Spa emerged as the top choice.
Living up to expectations of it being one of the top 10 family-friendly resorts in Asia by the Asia Spa Magazine and a grand slam recipient in the Conde Nast Traveler Reader’s Choice Awards, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa did not turn down the hosting chores.
Plantation Bay, PHILTA and the Lapu-Lapu City government recently signed the memorandum of agreement for the hosting of the event.
Although it already got a thumbs-up sign from no less than the International Tennis Federation during its first staging, Plantation Bay Resort and Spa’s general manager wants to correct any errors made previously and ensure a better hosting of the upcoming event.
A diffuser will be installed at the bleachers to avoid excessive heat from the sun and the resort’s shuttle buses will also be made available for the spectators.
It’s a “do-or-die” battle for the Philippines and Chinese Taipei to remain in Group 1 in the Asia-Oceania zone, that a jam-packed crowd is expected.
A special package deal is being offered by Plantation Bay Resort and Spa for those who want to watch and stay at the resort during the duration of the event.

While at Plantation Bay Resort and Spa, aside from the Davis Cup action, one can enjoy different recreational activities for children and adults alike, including water skiing, parasailing, jet ski, hobie cats, kayaks and paddle boats, wall climbing, coral and cave scuba diving, inter-island cruises, bicycling, golf (by arrangement to any of three private courses in Cebu), billiards, table soccer, air hockey, table tennis, archery, firing range, fishing or simply swimming in the open seas, the lagoon or in the pool with giant slides.
The resort’s Mogambo Springs is also something to look forward to with its spa, which is definitely one of the best.
After the exciting battle on the tennis court or from all the other activities, there’s also the resort’s food that will surely satisfy everyone’s discriminating taste.
