Macau International Music Fest turns 25

-

MANILA, Philippines - The annual Macau International Music Festival promises to be a bigger event this year as it marks an important milestone, its 25th anniversary.

To be held Oct. 7-Nov. 6, the prestigious month-long event is expected to be even more unique and memorable — renowned performers and musical groups from some 10 countries, as well as host Macau and China, will give both local and foreign audiences an unforgettable feast of the senses.

Audiences will be treated to a dynamic interaction between East and West as they listen to opera, orchestral and chamber music, and Chinese folk music.

Adding to the uniqueness of the experience is the staging of concerts in several World Heritage Sites, including the classical Dom Pedro V Theater, Mount Fortress and St. Dominic’s Church.

Already ongoing is “Fame - The Musical,” a theatrical adaptation of the blockbuster film. The current production at the Macao Cultural Center Grand Auditorium is by the American Barkley Kalpak Associates Inc.

Runners emerge from the downhill mud trail.

Other featured foreign performers and shows are Germany’s Akademie für Alte Musik Berlin and Fauré Quartet; Austria’s Vienna Philharmonic Orchestra; Portugal’s Ensemble Vocal Introitus and Sete Lágrimas, Quinteto António Zambujo, Rua da Saudade and Ar de Rock; Japan’s The Little Singers of Tokyo; Israel’s Itzhak Perlman Violin Recital; the United States’ Juilliard String Quartet and Dirty Dozen Brass Band; Switzerland’s Festival Strings Lucerne; Lithuanian National Opera and Ballet Theater Chorus; and Baroque Opera in 2 Acts by Georg Friederich Händel.

Joining the foreign performers are Hong Kong’s Spring-Time Stage Productions and Macao’s Theater Farmers, Macao Chinese Orchestra and Macao Orchestra.

Mainland China will present Chinese Folk Music Recital and, with Macao, the Beach Rock Concert.

Tickets will be available through the Macao Kong Seng Ticketing Network.
