An affordable luxury

- Lester Gopela Hallig -

MANILA, Philippines - Luxury made affordable? It is possible, and for over five years now, The Malayan Plaza has distinguished itself for making it all happen.

Through the years, The Malayan Plaza has earned raves from both business and leisure travelers for providing them with facilities and services that go beyond the usual. These guests consider the property’s rooms and suites as among the most spacious in town, all providing the residence and hotel concept. Space being a luxury now in most establishments, it is a real treat that The Malayan Plaza offers enough room at value-for-money rates.

“We have a kitchen and living room, and everything is generally centered on providing comfort, satisfaction, and a good night’s sleep,” begins The Malayan Plaza hotel manager Melisse Salvano.

“Our rates are flexible. We are a cost-effective alternative to traditional hotel-room accommodations,” Salvano continues. “What we call ‘affordable luxury’ is what we want to convey to foreign and local business travelers, vacationers or even the most discerning guests who are almost constantly in search of modern lifestyle comforts away from their home.”

The Malayan Plaza’s self-contained accommodations feature a 29-inch television set with DVD player, cable network connection, in-room video intercom, NDD/IDD phones, and in-room broadband Internet access. Complimentary room amenities include a coffee and tea set-up, buffet breakfast for two, and free use of the hotel facilities such as the swimming pool, fitness center, and kids’ playroom.

‘We are doing all these so that our guests will feel the affordable luxury of staying at The Malayan Plaza,’ says The Malayan Plaza hotel manager Melisse Salvano (seated), shown with her powerhouse team.

The establishment’s appeal likewise extends to its location. Guests do not have the luxury of time to travel far just to do business or leisure. With The Malayan Plaza strategically located in the heart of the Ortigas financial and commercial district, travelers can cover more ground than they would think possible.

The Malayan Plaza is a hop and a skip to the Asian Development Bank and to other prominent banks and multinational companies. Restaurants and shopping centers (Podium, Megamall, Galleria) are a good stroll away.

“Our prime location is a definite advantage where business and leisure needs are perfectly anticipated at The Malayan Plaza. We want our guests to appreciate the convenience of our locations as well as our value for money factor,” says Salvano.

Salvano notes that The Malayan Plaza’s commitment to quality does not stop in its facilities and location. The human factor, she says, plays a major role in their success and an important contribution in building customer loyalty.

“Our staff is our treasure. Apart from the friendly and efficient service we wish to provide to guests, we have a team of hard-working professionals who ensure that our rooms and facilities are inspected properly and immediate action is taken when the need arises. Our guests’ best interests are, and always will be, our top priority,” she stresses.

She happily notes that business has been steady, and that they continue to experience an improvement in their occupancy as compared to last year, despite the stiff competition with other hotels in the area.

Although the hotel’s main market is corporate, she says, “We are able to balance our market share with the travel agents and the domestic market as well.”

She credits the hotel’s high occupancy to its strategic location. She says, “The hotel is right in the middle of the business and leisure enclaves of the Ortigas business district, making it the client’s hotel of choice in the area. With the competitive rates being offered to our clients, we are confident that we will be able to maintain and achieve our targeted occupancy rate by the end of the year.”

Meanwhile, The Malayan Plaza is not resting on its laurels. Room renovations and in-room facility upgrades, such as Internet facilities, are in order to meet the demands of the sharp-eyed business travelers.

“These renovations happening for the most part of the year is our bid to stay ahead of the competition,” she says. “This project represents a significant investment for the hotel owners, but we are sure all our guests will be delighted with the modern and upgraded facilities.”

The hotel manager discloses that their frontliners also play a crucial role in The Malayan Plaza story. “For our aggressive sales team, we are looking at joining more local and international travel and trade shows, blitzes, team buildings and definitely more trainings to enhance their professional selling skills. We will stand out in terms of our employees’ contribution to the smooth running of the operation through their product knowledge and service standards,” she says.

All things considered, The Malayan Plaza promises bigger and more exciting things in the coming days. Meanwhile, the hotel is observing another milestone in its journey to provide the best service there is.

Salvano concludes, “We are doing all these so that our guests will feel the affordable luxury of staying at The Malayan Plaza.”
