Skechers Streetstylers strut their fashion style
MANILA, Philippines - Style is half the battle.
Amid the intense competition of the Skechers Streetdance Battle 6, the coveted Skechers Streetstyle Award was also up for grabs. One male and one female were chosen in each of the elimination legs to represent not on the dance floor but on the runway.
On the night of the biggest, toughest and hottest dance competition in the country, 12 streetstylers flaunted their best street getup in front of the sold-out Araneta crowd.
What is street style? There is no clear definition. Street fashion, like street dance, cannot simply be defined by words. You have to see it for yourself. The Skechers Streetdance Battle brought the streets to the stage — from the hippest moves to the hippest fashion statements.
These streetstylers are more than just dancers. They represent not only their schools. They are artists. They are fashionistas. Rarely is an art form so distinct yet so difficult to describe. This is street style.
The streetstyle finalists showcased their threads after the high school and college crews finished their routines in the Skechers Streetdance Battle. It was certainly a different kind of visual treat as the “model dancers” took the stage anew to strut their fashion style. On this glorious night when streetdance history was in the making, glamour wasn’t going to take the back seat.
The lights in the Big Dome dimmed, and when it went back up, the 12 fashionistas took to the catwalk. AG Gatmaytan (Ateneo HS), Angelica Sison (Olivares College), Gesica Escosio and John Rundell Paredes (CEU), Hannah Tan and Ross Tan (Ateneo), Miguel Luna (AMA QC), Jackie Dos Santos (UE), Julio Santos (UP Manila), Kathlyn Sanga (St. Paul), Leina Bolinas (Miriam HS), and Romel Reyes (Claret) displayed streetstyle flair and swagger in Skechers’ latest kicks — including Shape-Ups, the Skechers Radius Trainer, and the much-awaited Skechers Resistance Runner.
But this was not your traditional fashion show. The streetstylers did not simply walk the ramp. The dancers that they are, they walked and danced to the music. The fashion showdown was also a mini dance-off.
This year’s Skechers Streetstyle Awards went to Julio Santos of UP Manila and Jackie dos Santos of UE. The two winners each took home P10,000 worth of Skechers gift certificates.
