Macau songwriting tilt receives CHED support

-

MANILA, Philippines - The Commission on Higher Education (CHED) is encouraging all public and private higher education institutions in the National Capital Region (NCR) to participate in the Macau Song Writing Competition for 2010.

In a memorandum, CHED chairperson Patricia Licuanan said the competition, with the theme “My Next Travel Destination: Macau,” is a “recognition of the Filipino’s rich musical resources.”

Organized by the Macau Government Tourist Office-Philippines (MGTO), the competition is open to all bona fide college students currently enrolled in any university or college in the NCR.

They have to compose and write the lyrics to a song about Macau in any genre. The first prize winner gets an all-expense paid holiday to Macau, now Asia’s most exciting tourist destination.

The top two compositions will also be professionally arranged, sung by a celebrity singer, and recorded. The songs may be played on radio to promote Macau and will also be performed during MGTO dinners and events.

Top Filipino composers and musicians will be invited as judges in the competition. Deadline for submission of entries is 5 p.m. on Sept. 30.
