Quantum bullish on growth prospects

- Lester Gopela Hallig -

MANILA, Philippines - On the heels of the Asia-Pacific region’s recovery from the global financial meltdown, Quantum Hotels and Resorts (QHR) sees growth opportunities in the Philippine market. The hotel chain is poised to push through with new projects and developments.

QHR president John Cole announced that the company and a European investment group are embarking on a joint effort to redevelop and refurbish several hotels in the country.

The group is currently negotiating with its first investor project in Batangas to develop a property in the province. Quantum is looking for other similar projects within its investor financial parameters.

“This is an exciting time for us because we are looking at growth and expansion in the country,” said Cole. “We hope the Batangas project is going to be the first of several long-term projects for the next several years. Our plan is to secure a strong revenue base in terms of long-term technical service and management contracts for the company.”

Since 2000, QHR has derived its revenues through managed properties via its active regional sales, marketing networks, public relations, and real-time reservations systems to secure profitability for all its managed projects.

Aside from its existing managed properties such as the BSA Tower, BSA Suites, and The Malayan Plaza, the company has four new projects lined up.

As proof that the company is gaining recognition for its expertise, Quantum is scheduled to open the SKYY Hotel in Bangkok off Sukhumvit Soi 1 this November. The hotel is located right next to the Bumrungrad International Hospital where clients can easily access Bangkok’s

medical tourism area.

“This is a very solid market to tap especially near a well-known, well-established area. The clientele are from all over the world. We will be the closest hotel to the hospital,” said Cole.

QHR has also signed a partnership agreement with the luxurious Butterfly Resort in Chiang Mai. It is expected to sign more projects in Thailand this year.

Cole also said that Quantum has reached a partnership agreement with hotel giant Best Western International Hotels to be the third-party manager for selected projects of Best Western in the Philippines and other developing countries.

The partnership between QHR and Best Western complements both their objectives since Quantum’s quality range is similar to Best Western. Both groups manage properties that have a three-and-a-half to five-star rank.

Cole said, “Though Best Western both franchises and manages properties on an individual capacity, they also outsource some management services. This is where a primary link between Quantum and Best Western exists. While we have the operating expertise in the region, they have the international brand recognition, and the global reservation booking engine to drive revenue. It is really a great fit.”

QHR’s online booking makes up an impressive 14 percent of its overall reservations. Aside from the booking engine, QHR also does direct marketing to promote its managed and partner hotels.

Quantum’s Manila sales and marketing office regularly coordinates with its Hong Kong and Bangkok offices.

The company joins major travel and trade shows in an effort to promote its products and services with focus on value for money for its properties.

“We are looking forward to an aggressive growth and expansion in the Philippines in particular and the region in general. We are confident in the growth prospects for the Philippines and its ASEAN neighbors and China,” said Cole.

He added: “As Asia becomes the undisputed growth engine of the world, we are confident that Quantum will be able to achieve its revenue and growth targets through our excellent sales and marketing services, as well as our online booking engine.”
