Canada welcomes Filipino residents in 2010

-

MANILA, Philippines - Bienvenue! That’s the French greeting that will welcome between 240,000 and 265,000 new permanent residents in Canada in 2010. A large number are Filipinos.

“The focus of the 2010 plan is on economic immigration to support Canada’s economy during and beyond the current economic recovery,” says Jason Kenney, Canada’s Minister of Citizenship, Immigration and Multiculturalism, when he tabled Citizenship and Immigration Canada’s 2009 Annual Report in October 2009.

While most countries have cut back on their immigration levels in response to the global economic crisis, Canada is on an aggressive campaign to fill in the shortage in manpower threatening its industries, by maintaining their immigration levels.

“In 2010, Canada will again welcome more new permanent residents than the average annual intake during the 1990s,” notes Minister Kenney.

The Philippines is currently in the top three sources of immigrants to Canada, from being in the top six in 2000. It shows that more and more college-educated, skilled workers, and professional Filipinos and their families are finding themselves drawn to migrating to Canada. It helps a great deal that Filipinos have been known to adapt well to working and living conditions anywhere in the world. The fact that English is considered a second language by most also merits very high points.

With the current direction in immigration that Canada is taking, Filipinos should grab the opportunity to migrate to Canada and enjoy the many benefits Canada affords its residents and citizens.
