MBC launches nat'l choral tilt

-

MANILA, Philippines - Time and again, Filipino choirs have proven that the country produces some of the finest choristers around the globe.

With the world-renowned Philippine Madrigal Singers setting the pace in the field, a Hall of Fame stature for the UP Concert Chorus at the Aberdeen Music Festival in Scotland, annual wins for Filipino choirs at the European Grand Prix in Italy or at the annual Eisteddfodd in Wales, and young Filipino choristers winning gold medals at the World Choir Games in Austria, South Korea, Germany, and China, there is no longer any doubt that Filipino choral ensembles are truly world-class.

Known for its grasp of grassroots entertainment, the Manila Broadcasting Co. is now scouring the countryside to invite the best choirs to take part in the MBC National Choral Competitions set on Dec. 15-19.

The search features competitions for children’s choirs and an open category for schools, churches, residential communities, companies, government agencies, and special interest groups who may want to take part.

The grand prize winners for each category will receive P100,000 plus a trophy and other gifts courtesy of Star City.

Auditions are scheduled in Metro Manila (Aliw Theater) today, Cagayan de Oro on Nov. 12, Cebu on Nov. 14, Iloilo on Nov. 16, and Davao on Nov. 18.

Interested participants should contact the project secretariat via mobile numbers 0906-3099595 or 0910-4141663 or e-mail at siouxstar@gmail.com to secure detailed contest mechanics and registration forms.
