A wowful of Filipino fashion in Intramuros

-
Refreshing, enchanting, magical. A vivid display of hues depicting the evolution of Philippine fashion. A contemporary mode of activity interpreted in style, furnishings and apparel. The sophistication of a new world set against the romance and charm of the old ruins of Intramuros.

This is what local and foreign tourists will experience as the Department of Tourism (DOT), the Fashion Designers Association of the Philippines (FDAP), the Fashion and Design Council of the Philippines (FDCP), the Fashion Designers Group (FDG), and guest designers present "WOW Kasuotang Pilipino" at the Plaza San Ignacio in Intramuros on Saturday, December 20.

Tourism Secretary Richard J. Gordon explained that he has brought together the most talented groups of fashion designers to feature the Philippine destinations, capturing in all its substance and refinements, the culture, lifestyle and the arts of the nation’s 16 regions in a fashion extravaganza.

The gathering will have the leading style gurus representing various regions. They include Olive Ang, Bonjing Chua, Danny de la Cuesta, Mike de la Rosa, Steve de Leon, Dong Omaga Diaz, Larry Espinosa, Danny Franco, Bubum Melgar, Roseller Morabe, Bobby Novenario, Efren Ocampo, Nono Palmos, Richard Papa, Frederick Peralta, Loretto Popioco, Barge Ramos and Edgar San Diego.

Senior designer Ben Farrales leads the presentation of the bridal collection along with Aureo Alonzo, Noli Hans and Boy Gui-noo. The Uniform Manufacturers and Designers Association (UNIMODA) will focus on the latest in corporate wear.

Gordon likewise stated that aside from the fashion event, the DOT and its partners have lined up a weeklong special event featuring the "Best of the Best" in the Philippines.

Completing the celebration is the "WOW Pagkaing Pinoy" – a smorgasbord of Filipino cuisine and delicacies such as Aklan oysters, Masbate crabs, Bataan prawns, and all kinds of lechonsbaboy, baka, manok – and the sinugbang bangus, to name a few. In "WOW Inuming Pinoy!" the country’s top bartenders will concoct new drinks using local spirits on Wednesday and Thursday, December 17 and 18.

"WOW Himig Pilipino!" brings together the most talented choral groups from all the regions interpreting concert pieces at the DOT Gallery steps on Friday, December 19.

Capping the fiesta is this year’s biggest colorful dance festival "WOW Kapistahang Sayaw Pilipino" at the Quirino Grandstand, wherein hundreds of street revelers from the regions will compete for the top plum of being declared as the "Best of the Philippines Street Festival." This finale will enable spectators to get a glimpse of Cebu’s Yagyag Festival, Bacolod’s Masskara Festival, Tacloban’s Los Pintados Festival, and Surigao’s Bonok-Bonok. One million pesos await the grand winner with the second and third prize winners getting P500,000 and P250,000 respectively.
