DETOX IN SPARADISE

RENDEZVOUS  - Christine S. Dayrit -
There is a special place where I hie off to pamper my body, mind and soul. Like an enchanted oasis, this sanctuary magically gives me inner healing even if I am conscious of the chaos that pervades in the world. Here, I close my eyes and commune with myself. In silence, interrupted from time to time by the leaves rustling against the wind, I listen to the beating of my heart and I am immediately consoled that nothing is more peaceful than acquiring inner bliss. Welcome to The Farm in San Benito in Lipa, Batangas.

At The Farm, I am reminded of my parents’ last words to us children when they both died of lung cancer six years ago, 20 days apart of each other. At ages 59 and 60 respectively, Mom and Dad were completely driven workaholics. Mom was a highly successful jeweler who worked long hours, rested a little and skipped meals. Dad was the quintessential businessman whose touch was like Midas’. He played a lot of golf which he got into in his mid-50s. He was a voracious meat eater and didn’t fancy vegetables. He consumed a lot of canned goods and, yes, scotch.

When Mom started to have successive headaches, 27 doctors from our local hospitals irresponsibly misdiagnosed her, thus she suffered unnecessarily. It was in Stanford Hospital in California where the doctors told us Mom had terminal lung cancer and had only 12 weeks to live. They told us there was nothing more they could do for her and suggested we resort to natural medicine like herbal or alternative types. Six months later, Dad’s cancer was detected here only because his X-ray was almost identical with Mom’s.

When they were told they were terminally ill, my folks agreed they could have enjoyed their lives more. They accomplished their goals all right but the quality of their health deteriorated beyond repair. They relied on western medicine which in the end led them to resort to natural medicine. Why did they have to wait so long before they discovered this? Perhaps, if they had lived healthier and underwent the detoxification, they would still be around today.

No wonder on their death beds, Mom boldly said to us siblings: "Don’t be like me. Don’t work too much. Have a balance with work and play. Change your lifestyles." Dad, who had a respirator attached to his throat, scribbled: "Work will always be there. You must know when to stop at the end of the day and continue the next. It is important to love and laugh. Take care of each other and don’t fight over money. You can’t take it with you."

Thus, when I discovered the special sanctuary of the senses at The Farm in San Benito (a boutique health and wellness resort nestled at the foot of the verdant Mt. Malarayat) I knew I had fully embraced the answer to my parents’ quest. This is the lifestyle they were referring to. The Farm in San Benito provides a venue for wellness-seekers who wish to explore all facets of mind-body medicine. While it is a luxurious oasis, it is much more than just a health spa or fitness facility. The Farm’s primary goal is to be a template for changing the paradigm of health care on the planet. Activities to rejuvenate the mind, body and soul range from a simple massage to fully structured weeks-long alternative medical healing programs. Focusing on the benefits of a proactive stance towards health, The Farm aims to empower you with the knowledge to achieve a truly balanced lifestyle.

The Farm also advocates the famous dictum of Hippocrates, the father of medicine: "Let food be thy medicine and medicine be thy food." When the body is given proper nourishment and care, it can heal itself of virtually any disease. By eating life-giving foods and cleansing our system via detoxification, we create an environment in our bodies where disease cannot thrive. Because the resort thrives in this advocacy it is called the "Hippocrates Health Resort of Asia."

One of the services The Farm provides is to re-educate people to live a lifestyle that not only restores health but maintains it in a natural fashion as well. Did you know that virgin coconut oil, maligned so often by some companies producing vegetable oils, is so beneficial to our health? Apart from nutrition education, guests are offered options in wellness utilizing natural, non-invasive treatments including an 85 percent living foods diet, detoxification, exercise, spiritual development classes, nutritional supplements, spa treatments from therapeutic massages to cleansing body scrubs. A staff of medical and spa professionals supervises all programs offering consultations to day visitors and long-staying guests.

The old adage that says "When you’re young, your health takes care of your wealth and when you’re old, your wealth takes care of your health" need not be so. Taking care of the self ought to take place here and now. After all, wealth without well-being is meaningless. Among the most important lessons I learned from The Farm include the four steps in overcoming disease. The first step is to put a stop to the cause of the disease which leads to the second step which is putting a stop in ingesting foods that do not contain life enzymes. Removing the congestion, toxins, acids and everything else that contribute to disease is the third step. The fourth step is supplying the body with all the needed elements which include life force, enzymes, essential nutrients, positive thoughts and lots of love and laughter.

According to Eckard Rempe, owner of The Farm, research has shown that emotions associated with love such as care, compassion and appreciation can increase our ability to fight disease while anger and hate actually lower our resistance levels.

"We are toxic time bombs. We will never be able to clean our environment from the mess we have made. We may be able to make it better, but toxic chemicals are everywhere. The body has an amazing capacity to heal itself but as long as irritating contaminants remain in the tissues and new toxins are continually added, recovery is impossible. Removing the symptoms of disease does not cure the disease. The only way to remove the degenerative disease is to cleanse thyself. Surgery, drugs, or radiation won’t do this. It has to be done internally," Rempe said.

At The Farm, I experienced the five-day detoxification program which brings together all the elements necessary to get the body’s natural toxin-fighting capabilities back in top form through a combination of a detox diet (composed of raw fruits, herbs, enzyme replacement therapies and juices), exercise, skin cleansing and bowel and colon cleansing. The colon, also called the bowel, is the large intestine and also the sewage pipe of our gastrointestinal tract. The colon plays a vital role in the health of our entire body. The condition of this organ affects every other organ in the body and consequently, our overall health. Keeping the colon healthy will prevent and even eliminate many dis-ease conditions in the body.

The colon is cleansed through a procedure called colonics or colema. Colonics is a procedure that gets rid of toxic wastes that has accumulated and hardened inside the colon or large intestines through the use of a colonic machine. Colema is a procedure with the same purpose but it is done by flushing out wastes by the free flow of water. One of the best detoxying agents is coffee.

It takes time to heal. Don’t expect cleansing to be accomplished overnight. You have taken a lifetime to accumulate the toxins in your body. When the diet is improved, remarkable things begin to happen to the body and the mind. We begin to feel healthier, more alert, have a better memory and are happier. This is how the body was designed to function. After beginning the detox programs, you will notice immediate improvement in a matter of days. I was so amazed because after my detox program and cleansing, I had gotten rid of all the negative emotions trapped in my cells that I became so focused and driven. I even won in a golf tournament after only six lessons with my pro George Walker. Every single lesson learned was stored so vividly in my system thus I was in fighting form the moment I was on the green.

The detox program not only makes you lose weight and waste, it removes extra baggage in your heart and mind as well. The result is a happier, more focused, more balanced individual. Rempe advocates there are only two emotions – love and fear. If we love more, we will be in harmony with the universe and will get sick less. For the coming new year, let us bear this in mind. The universal remedy is purification and love. The real source of health is the Divine Source and that source is essentially love. That is why, where there is love, there is birth, growth, construction, healing and life. Where there is no love, there is destruction, deterioration, decay and death. Every molecule and every cell is perfect if feelings encompassing it are love, joy and delight.

We can choose to think loving thoughts and come into alignment with the divine order of the universe. Achieving this remarkable state of consciousness is within reach of every single person on earth who is willing to make the choice to do so. I have made that choice.
