Louis Vuitton Classic celebrates art of travel

Louis Vuitton’s passion for automobiles was once again evident at the 16th Louis Vuitton Classic, held f at the Domaine Nationale de Saint-Cloud, the summer playground on the outskirts of Paris frequented by Empress Eugenie, one of Louis Vuitton’s first customers back in 1854.
This year’s event had the theme "The Art of Travel without Limits," and featured 70 exceptional automobiles, from the beginning of the century to the 1990s. The cars were divided into nine categories by age and body type.
Judging criteria were based on the car’s performance, the beauty of a line or shape, the music of the engine and the refinement of the interior design. The international jury, consisting of 30 personalities from the auto world, was co-chaired by automobile engineer and designer Leonardo Fioravanti and Christian Philippsen, co-founder of the Louis Vuitton Classic.
Hollywood star Chow Yun Fat, an avid car enthusiast, presented the "Art of Traveling through the Ages" award. Others attendees included Shekar Kapur, director of the Oscar-nominated film Elizabeth; Micheline Connery, wife of Sean Connery; actress Jeanne Moreau; design maestro Andrée Putman, top Brazilian model Araccela Gonzales; actors Vincent Perez and Florence Darel.
Louis Vuitton Malletier’s love affair with the automobile and the spirit of travel dates back to 1894 when George Vuitton, the son of founder Louis Vuitton, attended the first international car race and the house was commissioned by various designers to equip their cars with specially made trunks. In 1987, the house organized its first Louis Vuitton Class Car event at Parc du Bagatelle, Paris. The event has been held annually since then .
