Sky-high adventure at the Macau Tower

-
Imagine... nothing but a metal grid separates you and the ground, over 200 meters below. Your heart is beating so fast, you can hear it. A rush of adrenaline sweeps over you as you look down to the ground.

An episode of Fear Factor or a scene from Mission Impossible? Think again. The scenario is exactly how one feels when he’s up 338 meters above the ground at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Center, Asia’s newest and most exciting events and leisure venue.

The 10th tallest free-standing tower in the world, reminiscent of the Space Needle in Seattle, the Macau Tower not only boasts of breathtaking panoramic vistas, world-class conference centers and meeting halls and an upmarket shopping mall, but also a one-of-a-kind entertainment and recreation center that offers sky-high, adrenaline-pumping activities guaranteed to give any thrill-seeker the ultimate rush.

Built at a cost of more than HK$1 billion and inaugurated during the second anniversary of Macau’s handover to China in December 2001, the Macau Tower is the only place in the region that has AJ Hackett-designed facilities. Creator of the Bungee Jump, AJ Hackett and his team of adventure professionals are the world’s industry leader with a safety record of 100 percent.

As part of its ongoing Million Purple, Thousand Red Summer Carnival, the Macau Tower is introducing a series of nerve-jangling activities designed to push the limit and build self-confidence among all ages.

For guests who want to conquer their fear of heights, the Macau Tower’s Ironwalk provides a great first exposure to extreme heights. Set eight meters above the ground, the Ironwalk is an exciting challenge for adults and children alike. Conquer the concrete faces of the Tower with a thrilling stroll up its sides and onto its legs. Ladders, steel cables and handrails will ensure your safety, so you can just cling on and enjoy yourself in the first adventure course of its kind in the world.

If you feel you can handle the feeling of stepping out into thin air, then you might want to try the Tower’s Skywalk, where spectators wearing a special "skysuit" and safety harness attached to a cable, can take a hair-raising stroll at the outdoor walkway 216 meters above the ground, on a see-through metal grate with handrails on each side.

But then again, if you are looking for the experience of a lifetime and eager to take on the extreme, there is the Mast Climb. With a maximum height of 338 meters, equivalent to 88 floors of the Tower, it is considered Macau’s Everest, the highest and sharpest point of the city. Feel the buzz as guides lead you and your friends to the very top of the tower, or as high as you can handle. The climb usually takes two hours with maximum of five climbers allowed at a time. A pre-climb training and assessment is done to ensure maximum safety.

For those who get their high on good food and terrific ambiance, a sumptuous "buffet-in-the-clouds" await at the revolving 360-degree café located at the tower’s 60th floor, serving authentic Portuguese/Macanese cuisine along with popular Chinese and international specialties amid the amazing panoramic views of Macau’s skyline that stretches as far as neighboring Hong Kong and China.

Loads of excitement can also be found at ground level as visitors can either rediscover the romance of waterfront dining and have fun with their children romping around in the tailor-made game booths or riding the beautiful 13-meter handcrafted carousel at the children’s playground.

A distinct centerpiece to Macau’s rapidly changing landscape, the imposing Macau Tower challenges anyone who dares cross its path – the challenge to leave their inhibitions behind, take themselves up to the next level and boldly go beyond the boundaries.

Be among the first to experience these amazing one-of-a-kind thrills at the Macau Tower Convention and Entertainment Center. For more information on the Macau Tower’s world-class facilities, contact the Macau Government Tourist Office at 830-2005 or 830-2013, or your travel agent.
