Christmas Message
What can I say? This is really one Christmas we will never forget, even after the passing of years and decades.
This Christmas, we will not be having our usual hectic two big face-to-face, beso-beso, hugging parties, complete with themes, costumes, programs, games, endless conversations and eating, and magulong gift-giving!
Pre-covid, it was the Fausto clan for lunch and the Fres clan for Noche Buena on the same day – December 24. Then the following day was with our nuclear family, eating left-overs, opening gifts, usually, still in our pantulogs. Once in a while, a sibling would invite us for December 25 lunch or dinner, and that’s the time we get dressed.
This year it will all just be zoom parties. But we still have themes. For the Fres clan, we’re doing a Baking Theme because the youngest members of our family are so into it. (Click Ensaymada Baking With Three-Year-Old Twins to see sample.) For the Fausto clan, it’s ChristMask FunDemic! That was my suggestion, by the way.
For all my other groups, we’ve also had our zoom parties. It’s not the same, but we have to make do with what we have.
This reminds me of how it is in most aspects of life. We make the most of what we have. In the vernacular, we say, “Gumawa ng paraan.”
When I am asked the question, “How can we observe ‘Pay yourself first’ if we are earning very little?” I give the same answer, “Kailangang gawan ng paraan.” You just have to cut back on your expenses and/or increase your income.
What we should remember is that there are pockets of opportunities and blessings during crisis. For me, this pandemic has somewhat allowed me to reach out to a bigger audience through online engagements. It’s always a thrill to find out that there are people from all over the country and other parts of the world while I give my talk or workshop from our home in Quezon City. I am also able to save on time getting stuck in traffic, and I have definitely saved big time on my mall-related expenses.
It’s going to be a totally different Christmas for all of us. I have a few hours to prepare how I want to remember this one-of-a-kind Christmas. I will make sure that I will include things that I will fondly narrate to my future grandchildren when they’d ask me, “Lola, how did you celebrate Christmas in 2020?”
How about you, what things would you like to include in your stories to your young ones many years from now?
I wish to end this article with my Christmas video message for all of you. Maligayang Pasko sa inyong lahat!
