It's always a good time

SUPREMO - Tim Yap - The Philippine Star

And just like that, it’s October.

Before Breast Cancer Awareness slash Halloween month hit, September had in it a few hits to make sure everyone was up to par with the speed of progress. New restaurants, bars, and brands kept us all up and kicking.

A style blogger’s favorite, I first saw the Daniel Wellington brand on the wrists of top style posers — all experts in the art of subtle advertising while carrying out their OOTDs. Some 1.3 million Instagram followers later and Daniel Wellington (or DW for short) is now on our shores, slowly but surely creeping up in style posts on your timeline without you even knowing it.

At the intimate event directed by Javi Martinex by Yaparazzi Events to launch the brand, molecular gastronomic bites of food prepared by chef Francis Tolentino of Unit 27 Bar+Cafe titillated taste buds while shots that had glazed bacon on top were passed around to keep the guests’ spirits on a high as they Instagrammed the night away. “Post it or it didn’t happen” seems to be the mantra of those into the sport of event hopping. I know a lot of you (me, too!) are guilty of this.

To reward those who worked hard to style their posts, whether it be an overlay, wrist or party shot, the Daniel Wellington people led by distributors Raffy and Kat Florencio, and event host Alexis Go awarded the outstanding ones — Style file Cuy Legaspi, Myx VJ Erica Abello and Miss Universe-Philippines Pia Wurtzbach. Other style notables seen at the DW launch were Kyle Quizon, Nix Alanon, Charmaine Palermo, Patricia Prieto, Steph and Jess Kienle, Katarina Rodriguez, Yassi Pressman, Natalia Ortega, and Divine Lee.

New surprises coming up

All of us, not coincidentally, wore white not just because it is the color that’s most on trend (especially in this weird weather of ours) but also because right after the DW launch, our calendars were blocked off for Magnum, that yummy ice cream concoction that has taken the scene by storm for its flashy but under-the-radar house parties filled with the city’s hip and happening. They were launching their yummiest flavor to date. Finally, a white almond Magnum!

Credit goes to the duo of Mond Gutierrez and Miggy Que Rodriguez and the Magnum team for assembling the most good-looking party bunch the metro has ever seen. It was like a model’s night out with every Brazilian model and their hottest-looking friend grooving to the beats of LA DJ Willy Monfret as bars of Magnum being passed around like hotcakes. White balloons from here to eternity filled the Acacia street mansion that housed the event, reminding me of a house party in the Hamptons. Jess Connelly serenaded the guests, a welcome return since the first time she did so was during the 2013 launch, which had Azalea Banks as the surprise guest.

New surprises were the return of Georgina Wilson to the Magnum fold, as well as new ambassadors such as Sarah Lahbati, photographer BJ Pascual and my ultimate favorite Kelsey Merritt, fresh from a New York stint with Wilhelmina models. Expect more surprises from this young, shining star.

Everything is just getting started — so best to be ready for more.
