Tiesto comes back to Manila
MANILA, Philippines - As progressive house and trance music has been gaining popularity among the mainstream channels, the next international DJ to hit our shores needs no introduction. We’re talking about Tiësto, the benchmark for established and aspiring DJs alike. The man pioneered the genre’s rise above ground, being the first DJ to play solo before entire stadiums, and the first to perform at the opening ceremony of the Olympic games.
And now, Tiësto, the Grammy-nominated artist who is perhaps the most sought after EDM DJ, is set to take Manila again by storm on Oct. 3 at the Smart Araneta Coliseum for his Club Life Tour. Expect him to play his hits and crowd favorites such as Beautiful World, Elements of Life, I Will Be Here, Silence, Work Hard Play Hard and We Own the Night.
The gig is set to be one for the books. Of course, it’s always an intense night with Tiësto, who DJ magazine named as the world’s No. 1 DJ three times in a row from 2002 to 2004 — the first and only DJ with this notch on his belt. Since his last visit to the Philippines, Tiësto’s high-intensity performances have only gotten bigger and better with regard to his energy level. Then again, that may not come as much of a shock — word is Tiësto beat the world record for most number of Red Bulls consumed in 24 hours — that would be 31 during a marathon set in 2001. This is a feat he admits he will never reattempt.
