Koji Arsua - The Philippine Star

Demi Lovato

MANILA, Philippines - Demi Lovato will be in Manila on Wednesday for A Special Night with Demi Lovato, the singer’s second headlining concert tour. The concert will be in support of “Unbroken,” the critically and commercially successful album she released right around the time of her struggle with her “physical and emotional issues.” The concert will feature both the album’s singles Give Your Heart a Break and Skyscraper, which reached the top of the charts. The concert will be held at the Smart Araneta Coliseum at 8 p.m. Tickets to Demi Lovato - Live in Manila 2013 are available on www.ticketnet.com.ph. This event is sponsored by Random Minds Production and Wilbros Live, in cooperation with Fox, Star World and McDonald’s.

Brixton Block Party

If you’ve been dying to go to Bloc Party next week but you’re broke, you might as well go to the next best thing, which may even be more fun than the concert. Tonight, Heima, our brothers from Young STAR, and Strike Back Attack are hosting the Brixton Block Party to celebrate the opening of Heima’s new store at Three Brixton, Kapitolyo, Pasig. The event will also herald the release of Ang Nawawala’s soundtrack on vinyl. The night will feature music from DJ Toti Dalmacion of Groove Nation and Terno Recordings, Pulso, Hanna + Gabi with Outerhope, Pedicab, Tarsius, Jazz Nicolas and Kelvin Yu, Ebe Dancel, and Daydream Cycle. Be surrounded by great people, greater music, and the best merchandise from Heima. They will also be selling record players bundled with the Ang Nawawala LP. Party starts at 7 p.m.

Bloc Party

Be prepared as British indie sensation Bloc Party will be playing live in Manila next Friday at the World Trade Center. The band behind the hits So Here We Are, Banquet, and She’s Hearing Voices will prove why their debut album “Silent Alarm” was nominated for Album of the Year in three award-giving bodies in 2005. Their sound is described as indie rock, with a touch of electronica in their second and third albums. But their most recent opus, “Four,” is a return to their roots, reminding fans why they fell in love with Bloc Party. The band has been playing new songs in recent concerts, so better catch them next week to hear their new sound for their possible new album.

Himala

Amid news of Dirty Dancing hitting the Manila stage in July and possibilities of Wicked following suit, the 10-year anniversary of the musical Himala is making waves in Philippine theater. PETA will be bringing the story of Elsa, a woman who faked miracles and brought hope to a small town in the province, from its cult classic status in film to the stage as musical. Ricky Lee, who wrote the film’s screenplay, co-wrote the libretto with Vince de Jesus. The musical will star Isay Alvarez, Cynthia Culig-Guico, Dulce, Lionel Guico, Reuben Laurente, Melvin Lee, Eladio Pamaran, and May Bayot-DeCastro. It is directed by Soxie Topacio. Shows will run from March 15 to 24 at the PETA Theater.
