This is what happened the night of 'Black Tuesday'

The hashtag #notocybercrimelaw might have permeated cyberspace and some people may have changed their display pictures to black that day but that night, political, entertainment, art, business and social thought movers and shakers raised their glasses to the first year of “being the best man you can be,” something that Esquire magazine espouses.

The #EsquireBall to celebrate the glossy mag’s first year was bigger and better. There was more contrast. The mix of people was more noticeable. People stayed longer. There was more space for guests to mingle. The performances were longer, with artists playing a different set than their usual repertoire. If you looked around, you’d see pockets of people having nice pockets of conversations. Necklines plunged dangerously deeper, slits were higher and stares, definitely longer.

I arrived in time to see the editors on stage, with Esquire EIC Erwin Romulo beside fashion director Raymond Gutierrez and food and drinks editor Erwan Heussaff side-by-side young literary heavyweights such as Sarge Lacuesta and Little Jonty Cruz. From my view, art director Ces Olondriz was the only rose among the thorns, but later on, I think I spotted Audrey Carpio, as well, and we talked briefly about Instagram.

The rest of the night was a blur of many parties happening in the same place on the same night. Anne Curtis on one side of the bar, Lovi Poe on another while Georgina Wilson was going around, hopping from the Blackberry VIP area to the Tattoo lounge area. So many memories were made that night, maybe deals also sealed, friendships formed (or broken) and issues discussed for sure.  This is what happens when people are brought together.

So to the people behind Esquire, continue being the best that you can be. Because even the best can always be better. Cheers to your first year from your brothers here at Supreme.
