And God created Adam

SUPREMO - Tim Yap - The Philippine Star

I have never seen so many Eves go gaga the way they went gaga over Adam. Adam Levine, who grooves like Jagger, with his Maroon 5 crew took over Manila, left a storm and made everyone grab a bite of the forbidden apple that Adam so effortlessly offered.

The day of our one-on-one, Adam Levine was a picture of cool, after being bombarded one after another by the likes of other one-on-one interviewees (the likes of Gretchen Fullido, Ginger Conejero, even Isabelle Daza!) he seemed unfazed, cold even. He was just churning out answers point blank, with a frankness that was in our face but still very respectful. I guess that’s the yogi in him. He’s a yoga practitioner, body filled with tattoos, a rockstar who sings the anthems of a generation, dates supermodels, makes love in a Kenneth Cobonpue in the center of a city for a music video — how can you not fall for the man?

“He is the hottest, no other man comes close,” said Ben Chan who hand picked Adam and named him a global Benchsetter, an ambassador for the Filipino global brand that is now slowly and surely making its presence felt all over the world. At the presidential suite of the Peninsula Manila, Adam was wearing a short sleeved piqué shirt that had the logo “Pinoy Lab.” Sounds like, Pinoy love. “I feel the love here, people are extremely warm.”

In a one-two-punch of a week that had foreign and local acts coming one after the other, Supreme sits down with the style icon and discovers his thoughts other than matters sartorial. Dear @PhilStarSUPREME readers, let us all bow down and worship Adam Levine.

SUPREME: How do you feel knowing that The Voice is so well received all over the world?

ADAM LEVINE: It’s pretty incredible. I feel so blessed. It’s another cool thing to be a part of. Having a cool impact on pop culture is really fun. I really appreciate it and I don’t take it for granted.

Having this bromance with Blake Shelton, how will this reflect in the new season?

Blake is a wonderful, wonderful guy who I love very, very deeply. The media, of course, have turned this into the world’s biggest metrosexual couple but we’re just buddies. That’s all. We have a good time. We have a good laugh together.

How about Christina?

Christina’s fantastic. We had a rough start but we’re so happy and cool and friends. Everything’s fine. It took a minute for us to understand each other but now we’re just totally friends.

Who do you think’s a better mentor, Christina or Britney?

I don’t know. I haven’t seen Britney’s mentoring skills. Who knows?

This collaboration with Bench, how did it come about?

They asked me to do it and I would say I was resistant at first. But you know, when you’re going to endorse something, you should know more about it. I checked it out, saw the clothes, loved the clothes, the people were really sweet, they’ve been really wonderful today. It’s been a lot of fun.

And the photo shoot was one of the most fun times I’ve had in a photo shoot, which was great. And I decided to do it. I thought it was a cool idea. And I had a day off, so, sure.

The clothes are amazing. They’re great. I’m wearing them right now. I love them. I wear them all the time.

What’s your personal style?

It’s really simple. Jeans, T-shirts, polos, jackets. Very very simple things.

I don’t really like it when things are too much clutter. I like really basic.

Who are your style icons?

I don’t know if I emulate too many other people’s styles. I really like the kind of classic sensibilities of the ‘50s. Dark denim, dark amazing kind of American denim. The white T-shirts, and you know, almost the way mechanics would look in the ‘50s. Very clean, simple, and pressed. Kind of basic but classic look that never really goes away.

How about women? What personality do you like?

You know, there’s so many different kinds of amazing women out there in the world. So many different types to appreciate.

If you were to make statements T-shirts, what statements would you print?

Legalize gay marriage.

What’s next for you? After these concerts, TV shows, what is next in your life and in your career?

I don’t know. That’s the strange thing about life. You never know what’s coming around the corner Gonna do some music, do this TV show, let me do a couple of acting gigs, then see what happens next.

Couple of acting gigs?

I don’t know what. We’ll see.

Lastly, a message to your Filipino fans?

We love our Filipino fans. You’re some of the best fans we have in the world. So we’re happy to be here for, like, the third time in six years. There’s a reason why we keep coming back.
