Best of the week: Jessica Sanchez in 'Miss Saigon', Lolong breaks a record, and Facebook introduces a stalker app

Rumor of the week: Jessica Sanchez for 'Miss Saigon'

Manila, Philippines - We’re over Jessica Sanchez’s loss on American Idol (in fact, we may have even forgotten about it), but she’s proving herself the real winner of the competition. Besides booking a record deal with the man who produced records for Jennifer Lopez, rumors are spreading that she’s playing Kim in a film adaptation of Miss Saigon. In case you’re wondering what happened to Phillip Phillips, we have no idea, but we guess we can expect him on future episodes of Glee.

Record-holder of the week: Lolong

You know you love it when we get international recognition, and we got it again via the Guinness Book of World Records with Lolong being listed as the world’s largest crocodile. We find it somewhat disturbing that we glorify a creature suspected of killing (and dare we say, eating) two people, including a young girl, but we Filipinos are known to smile in the face of adversity and negative publicity. Sure, it’s fine and dandy to be recognized for being the home of a 20-foot-long crocodile until said crocodile escapes from its home and goes missing.

Senatoriable of the week: BamAquino

Another Aquino is set to hit Philippine politics and we’re somehow sad that it isn’t Kris. Bam Aquino, cousin to President Noynoy, is planning to run for senator in the 2013 elections, possibly becoming one of the youngest. It might be a breath of fresh air to see someone as young as him fight for people’s rights (especially for the youth and women), but we can only imagine what would happen if other senators oppose his points of view. We’re thinking somewhere along the lines of an admonishment of “papunta ka pa lang, pabalik na kami” plus, a timeout.

App of the week: Facebook's Friendshake

Facebook, the new Queen of Reinvention, has created a feature called the Friendshake, where you will be informed if your friends are physically nearby. Facebook is tight-lipped about the project, but we heard that you will also be alerted of people near you, even if you are not friends on the social networking site. It’s great if you’re single, but sucks for you if you have a crazy, psycho, obsessive, and possessive girlfriend.
