Meme Of The Week: Noynoying

MANILA, Philippines - “Noynoying” is the meme du jour, where the individual basically sits around and stares into space, an attack on P-Noy and his supposed lack of involvement in important matters such as rising oil prices. The meme was introduced at a rally last week, though it’s likely that milling around a government building is “so last season.” The Wall Street Journal picked up on the story, with a scathing essay that says P-Noy “might not be the most hands-on president to have led the Philippines” with a reference to Juan Tamad. We don’t buy into the trend because “noynoying” has existed for millions of years, is familiar to many students, and has a better sounding name: procrastination. I’d like to close this with a witty remark but, eh, I’m noynoying.

Apology Of The Week: Jimmy Sieczka Of 20 Reasons I Dislike The Philippines

What many thought was just another video bashing the Philippines escalated into epic proportions when its maker, Jimmy Sieczka, was petitioned as persona non grata in Cebu, where he has lived and worked for three years. Persona non grata is Latin for “whoop his ass out of here,” and he has offered an apology to those he offended, in the hopes the city reconsiders the decision. Personally, we don’t find his video offensive because it’s true, but we wish he could have taken a more constructive tone in narration. Nonetheless, he’s living proof that #ItsMoreFuninthePhilippines because he would have left if the country sucked that bad, right? Mr. Jimenez, may we present to you DOT’s new ambassador?

Program Of The Week: Opm2go

Singer Ogie Alcasid is formally launching OPM2Go, an online initiative similar to the iTunes store where users can buy local music online for P15 per song and P10 for songs from independent acts. The store was created to make purchasing more accessible, at a time when Filipinos prefer to download music instead of buying CDs. Ogie and his team have harnessed the power of downloads to support the local music industry and we urge everyone to buy local music and not rip it off from torrents or YouTube converters!

Breakdown Of The Week: Jason Russell Of Kony 2012

Jason Russell, the man behind Kony 2012, was arrested when he was seen walking in public, exercising, clapping, swearing and talking to himself about the devil… completely naked. This after Kony 2012 had become the most viral video of all time, garnering support from celebrities such as Oprah, Rihanna, Taylor Swift, Bill Gates and tributes from The Hunger Games. We believe that his cause for Ugandan freedom should be separated from his somewhat fascinating private life, but we’d like to slowly step away from the man and allow him to get rest and regroup his thoughts. Some have harshly called his cause Phony 2012, but somehow, #Horny2012 sounds better.

Battle Royale Of The Week: Sharon Cuneta Vs. Twitter

Sharon Cuneta was under fire on Twitter after users attacked her and daughter KC Concepcion. The reasons for the attack were not clear, but the tirades became personal and Sharon suspects they are Piolo fans still bitter about KC’s public (and yet deliciously vague) tell-all on The Buzz. But Sharon fought back, tweeting “Maybe it’s time I talk and tell the whole real story.” KC has come to her mother’s defense, saying that “Kung alam n’yo lang kasi talaga, maiintindihan n’yo kung ba’t kinakailangan kong gawin ‘yon.” Can anyone please confeerm the story so we can move on with our lives?
