Concert of the week: ‘A Decade of Difference’

MANILA, Philippines - Notwithstanding that whole Monica Lewinsky debacle, former US President Bill Clinton is still pretty popular among Americans. This week, the music industry came together for A Decade of Difference, a concert celebrating 10 years of the William J. Clinton Foundation. Naturally, it was crazy. Usher split the seams of his pants singing OMG, while Lady Gaga made like Marilyn Monroe and sang Happy Birthday, Mr. President, then later changed the words of Bad Romance to Bill Romance. After Gaga’s performance, President Clinton said something about being afraid of getting a heart attack during her number, but for some reason, all we heard was, “I did not have sexual relations with that woman!”

Twitter hacker of the week: @TheMichaelHD

It’s a case of the stolen twitters! Last week, someone hacked into Supreme editor in chief Tim Yap’s twitter, and changed the accompanying email, profile picture and username from @iamtimyap to @TheMichaelHD. Before long, the account started spouting cheesy love quotes, prompting Ruffa Guttierez to tweet “Is that really you Tim??” Tim’s celebrity friends have started a tweet crusade to report the offender to the Twitter police. Help them out by reporting the hacker to twitter @support! — Amanda Lago

Let-down of the week: ‘Charlie’s Angels’

It was all over even before it could start. After being sighted as one of the more promising shows for fall, ABC has pulled the plug on the Drew Barrymore-produced reboot of Charlie’s Angels. The show was supposed to be the launching pad of actresses Minka Kelly, Rachael Taylor and Annie Ilonzeh, but after being panned by critics, it looks like they’ll just have to look for another break in the industry. Since that’s all over, hey, Drew, we could actually go for a Charlie’s Angels movie part three, especially since you, Cameron D. and Lucy Liu aren’t getting any younger. Plus, we miss those crazy costumes, Cameron’s underwear dancing, and… Destiny’s Child, come to think of it.

Bromance of the week: Robert Downey, Jr. and Mel Gibson

There was a time when actor Robert Downey, Jr. sunk to Lindsay Lohan-level lows to a point where he was uninsurable. Fortunately, his friend Mel Gibson, who was still a huge movie star at that time, paid his insurance bond in 2003 for The Singing Detective. Today, RDJ is friggin’ Iron Man and nobody in Hollywood wants to work with Gibson after a series of highly-publicized racial slurs and threats of violence to an ex. During the American Cinematheque Award ceremony, RDJ returned the favor by urging the crowd to “forgive my friend his trespasses.” We wonder who’s willing to vouch for Lindsay Lohan, but then again, we really don’t want to have to choose between her and Emma Stone.

KJ of the week: Breast cancer

After being diagnosed with stage 3 breast cancer in 2007, Albert Martinez’s wife of 26 years, Liezl, was reportedly in remission late last year. However, during a tearful interview on The Buzz, he revealed that her cancer recurred. Two days later, stories surfaced of US entertainment host Giulana Rancic also being diagnosed with the early stages of breast cancer after being told by her doctor to undergo a mammogram after two failed attempts at in-vitro fertilization. The survival rate of breast cancer is 88 percent at stage 1, and up to 67 percent in stage 3A. To quote Seth Rogen in 50/50, which also tackles cancer, “If you were a casino game, you’d have the best odds.” Be strong, ladies.

TV event of the week: ‘The September Issue’ dubbed in Tagalog

The September Issue has already been viewed religiously by US Vogue devotees, but we bet none of its Filipino fans has seen it dubbed in Tagalog. Aired last Sunday by GMA News TV, the documentary tickled its viewers in such a specific way that they couldn’t stop gushing over it on Twitter, and we understand why. There is something ticklish about venerated US Vogue creative director Grace Coddington saying, “Sandali lang… turuan ko nga ng leksyon!” while talking about the now-famous scene where she marches right up to editor in chief Anna Wintour and in front of rolling cameras, demands that her budget be reinstated. Blimey!

Pride award: Zachary Quinto

Confirmed! Earlier this week, Zachary Quinto finally acknowledged that he is a true blue becky. Apparently, the suicide of gay teen Jamey Rodemeyer made Zach realize “that living a gay life without publicly acknowledging it is simply not enough to make any significant contribution…” Truthfully, we can’t say we’re surprised. After all, aside from playing Spock on Star Trek and Sylar on Heroes, he’d also starred in a play about gay marriage, not to mention, he’s always had the most perfectly groomed eyebrows. At any rate, we’re happy for him. Live long and prosper, Zach! — Amanda Lago
