Come as you are
Title of the Nirvana song aside, the dress code for the night was luxe grunge. That in itself is an oxymoron --- grunge being a decade where plaid, greasy hair and torn denim befit every rebellious Seattle musician, and luxe, well, surely that’s all elitist, polished sophistication and yachts — but the ‘90s and a wink of class did collide at Mango’s fall/winter 2011 presentation at Resorts World. Off-ramp style was a dizzying range of individual reinterpretations of the theme. No one paid any strict adherence to the sartorial prerequisite, opting instead for a blurring of decade trends. It’s interesting to see how it all managed to come off as some reworked version of an iconic musical era.
