BEST OF THE WEEK: Kim's kasal and Katy's karir, etc.
MANILA, Philippines - Nominee of the Week: TV Patrol
This week, the International Emmy Awards released its list of nominees for 2011, including TV Patrol’s coverage of the Manila hostage crisis under the news category. The news show will be competing against three other programs from the UK, Brazil and Iceland, in the same body where Sid Lucero won a nomination for Best Actor in 2010, while Rolando Mendoza was voted Best Villain.
Quitter of the Week: Steve Jobs
In the tradition of Maria Ressa and Merceditas Gutierrez, we officially honor Steve Jobs, CEO of Apple, as our Quitter of the Week. Jobs handed out his concisely heartfelt letter to Apple this week, nominating Tim Cook to succeed him and lead the board. In his honor, an iPhone application called iQuit was released.
Unofficial Queen of Pop Award: Katy Perry
This week, Katy Perry was crowned the unofficial Queen of Pop after her song Last Friday Night (T.G.I.F.) topped the US Billboard Hot 100 list, her fifth number one from the same album. The last time someone was able to do this was in 1987, when Michael Jackson was still alive, pre-molestation charges.
Obligatory Post of the Week: Kim Kardashian’s Wedding
Last week saw the realization of Kim Kardashian’s Kasal or what we’d like to call KKK — a fairy tale wedding which was worth well over $10 million. Go on Google if you want to see pics, but if you want to be like her and earn $17 million from a free wedding, you'll have to go to church and pray for it.
Superhero of the Week: Ryan Gosling
In a totally unscripted move, Hollywood hottie Ryan Gosling appeared in the middle of a street in Manhattan out of nowhere and helped break up a fight. Clad in a simple NY pedestrian look, the actor came up to prevent the situation from worsening, making us want to dress him in a super tight superhero costume anytime.
