Tweep Of The Week: @Annecurtissmith

MANILA, Philippines - We may never know who the first Filipino on Twitter is, but now that the microblogging site has taken the country like angry birds, a new record has been set. Last week, It girl and Supreme’s outstanding tweeter of 2010 Anne Curtis became the first Pinoy tweep to reach a million followers. Fans campaigned for other fans to follow the actress’ handle, @annecurtissmith, in an effort to elect the Filipina celebrity to Twitter’s Millionaire Club. As of press time, Anne has 1,040,330 followers, and is ranked 341st among Twitter’s 100 million users. Some other personalities are also trying to get themselves more followers, though some are still a far cry from breaking a million. Segue to: Guys, would you mind if you follow @PhilStarSUPREME, too?!

Burlesk King Of The New Millennium: Channing Tatum

When the world found out that Channing Tatum’s previous job was not in the military but rather at a strip club as an exotic dancer, brides and brides-to-be all around the world probably regretted not hiring him for their bridal showers. Meanwhile, Stephen Sodenbergh, famed director of the Ocean’s Eleven, Twelv,e and Thirteen movies, had other plans, announcing that a movie about Tatum’s stripper past is already in the works. Fans are already crazy about the project, and even the director is. “I thought it was one of the best ideas I’d ever heard for a movie,” he said. The movie has no working title yet, but we think G.I. Joe: the Rise of my Cobra would be right on the money (in his g-string).

Anthem Of The Week: Party In The Usa By Miley Cyrus

Forget about We Are the Champions or Star-Spangled Banner. This week’s biggest news deserves its own anthem. Miley Cyrus’ Party in the USA couldn’t have said it any better, and American people are taking the song with them to all parties celebrating the death of 9/11 mastermind Osama bin Laden. Late Sunday evening, President Barack Obama interrupted regular TV programming in the United States to report Bin Laden’s death. People took their jubilation to the streets, setting up impromptu street parties all across the country, with only one song playing on their minds.

Harry Houdini Lifetime Achievement Award: Merceditas Gutierrez

Harry Houdini is the best escape artist that ever lived, but former Ombudsman Merceditas Gutierrez is a close second. Ten days before the start of her historical impeachment trial in the Senate, OMG decided to be the kill joy of the year and disappear from the scrutinizing light of justice. Last week, Gutierrez met with the President to personally hand her resignation letter to him, ending her tenure of office a year earlier than it should. Writing about her decision, Merci said her resignation is the “better of few options available to me today,” and is also a way of saving herself from the “shame of being the first Ombudsman to have been forcibly removed from office.”

Stand-Up Comedian Of The Week: Hrh, Charles, Prince Of Wales

The biggest news last week was the Royal Wedding, and even the Ombudsman’s resignation couldn’t upstage it. Prince William married commoner Catherine Middleton and kissed her twice in the balcony of Buckingham Palace, to the delight of England and the world. Chances are, you’ve already seen the wedding photos and the ridiculous hats that Lady Gaga inspired; but have you heard about what happened during the reception? Apparently, Prince Charles, the groomdaddy, made fun of his son that night. In his speech for the newlyweds, the Prince of Wales welcomed Duchess Kate to the family, saying he was very lucky to have her as daughter-in-law. After that, he went for the kill by joking about his bald patch and William’s exposed scalp, claiming it must run in the family. Everyone in the reception found it funny, but we are left wondering whether our balding President could also be a member of the royal family.
