The best thing about goodbye is hello

SUPREMO - Tim Yap -

As I write this, Simon Cowell bids bye to the snoozefest of a show that was the American Idol finals, new designers are debuting their collections at the Philippine Fashion Week. Closings and openings, that was what this week is all about. Goodbye, and then hello!

Certain clubs, like Fly (the site of the original Embassy and now the smaller, adjacent dancefloor of Encore), have said adieu to their space, bringing with the people who inhabited the place (that’s you and me) a lot of memories that will last for generations to come. Some, just like me, will live to tell the story ... with happiness. For its (semi) final night, guess who came to the party? The fighting congressman from Saranggani, none other than Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao himself, with wife Jinkee, Jinkee’s twin, and some other friends in tow. How’s that for a sendoff? “Happy travels,” as I said to everyone that night. After a toast with my partners, we offered the guests that night a teaser of what is to come. The birth of something exciting, coming up!

Another club, quite a legendary one at that — especially for Boracay revelers — is reportedly having its swan song this weekend. It was in Facebook where trouble in paradise was detected when island folks posted alarming messages of the coming closure of Hey Jude! The bar is part of many an unforgettable night for all of us who escape to Boracay for temporary bliss. Holidazed or confused, the venue was Hey Jude!, where the sight of Jude, its owner, and Sunday the friendly dog greeted its happy hour customers with a slight wag of its tail as both of you look onto the sunset. For those of us who saw the evolution of Boracay from solace from the city to city in solace, Hey Jude will be missed.

New Spots Spotted

With every door closed comes new windows that offer vast lands of promise. There are new hangouts around the metro — some new, others resurrected by a facelift, while some others, breathed new life to by creative movers and magnets of people, its promoters!

The Establishment, aside from serving really yummy five-star food by Chef Godfrey Laforteza, also serves live Latin music on Mondays and Tuesdays. I was there a week ago and I was witness to a showdown of stars (both from showbiz and society)  samba-ing on the dancefloor. How refreshing!

Last Monday (and every first Monday of the month for that matter) night, I hopped by for L’Apero, the brainchild of modern epicurean Steph Zubiri for the weary workphiles out there to go out and party right after work with a yummy sampling menu prepared by the one-two-punch of Chef Godfrey plus her—what a treat it was! Keep up the great vibe, guys.

After that, I did the whole Monday hop — from Members Only Tu Casa launch (hip hop) to Happy Mondays (alternative/rock) to Fiamma’s mash-up Mondays with Funk Avy, my ultimate favorite DJ! When someone sang Manic Monday, she surely didn’t know about our Monday night situation.

The trouble with Mondays is that no matter what happened last night, you gotta move forward to the rest of the week. Which is another way of saying that no matter what, we gotta move on. Hey, whattaya know? It’s already the weekend.
