We are all survivors

- Tim Yap -

What made Pinoys of all ages tune in as one castaway after another got voted out of the island, until only one — the strongest and the wisest — remained?

Nope, JC Tiuseco wasn’t just plain lucky. Sure, he doesn’t look like a caveman, even if they had to perform Tarzan-like tasks on a deserted island not belonging to our own 7,107.  But what got every Juan to watch Survivor was that everyone could identify with the plot — somehow, everything seemed so urgent, so real life — and it was.

It is hard to imagine how soft-spoken and well-mannered JC could have emerged on top of the heap out of the other seemingly more driven and impassioned castaways. But I guess there lies the secret of JC’s charm — quiet, but deadly.  If there’s anything to learn from JC’s victory, it is that sometimes, to survive a war, crisis, predicament, issue or whatever else we call it, the best way is to take the silent route and move forward.

Yes, there were spoilers about him all throughout the entire season, but he never confirmed or denied these rumors.  Other people were too concerned with making noise to try to drive their point that they forgot that somehow, in life, quiet strategies work far better than firecrackers that just pollute the air after a five-minute shebang.

So, remember that on your next battle.

At the moment, JC is getting the hero’s welcome in his home station GMA-7 with a motorcade to welcome him as the new host of the morning show Unang Hirit, which means you’ll get your daily fix of JC for breakfast. He is also currently busy doing the rounds of the shows, and shooting endorsements left and right.  Now is the right time for him to strike.  Still, JC maintains his humble stance and quiet demeanor.  He knows he is not alone — for in this world, we are all survivors.

A Survivor means…Being able to survive without compromising your values and principles.

The worst part of being left on an island is…Not just being deprived of food and shelter, but also that you miss your family and people close to you.

The hardest challenge for me during the game was…Adapting to unfamiliar territories.

The thing that I miss the most about the island is…My bonding with the other castaways.

The most embarrassing thing that happened to me during the show was when…I had to pee at the back of the speed boat before the game started.

When I was on the island, the thing that I missed about home was…My bed!

If there’s one person that I want to be left on a deserted island with, it is… No one. I don’t want anyone to experience how hard it is to live on a deserted island.

To be a survivor, one must…Be able to focus in a game that requires mental and physical strength at the same time.

The best part of winning Survivor is…Being recognized for one’s strength...and the perks that come after.

My resolution on this new year is…To work harder to achieve my goal. Be it acting, TV and hosting.

I’m looking forward to…Doing my best in all the projects that will come my way, and be a good role model for the youth.
