Jamie Wilson and other complexities

-

For some time now, Jamie Wilson, one of the theater industry’s finest actors, has been enjoying (and thriving in) the corporate world, but he readily admits there’s nothing better than the fulfilment he gets out of performing — his true calling.

Tomorrow, 7 p.m. at the SJG Studio, Kalayaan Ave., Makati City (call 896-5497, seats are limited), Jamie resumes his love affair with the legitimate stage when he guests in one of the workshopped scenes in Duologues and Other Complexities: An NVC Showcase, an engaging hodgepodge of 10 open-ended situations that examine 10 diverse relationships inspired by the works of Kevin Wade, Ara Watson, Christopher Durang, Debbie Isitt, Garry Michael Kluger, Monica Dickens, and Kathy Najimy, and featuring 15 of NVC’s current batch of talented workshop students. Duologues is devised and directed by NVC associate artistic director Rito Asilo, who also adapted some of the scenes in Filipino.

Wilson was last seen in the New Voice Company’s successful VDay staging of Eve Ensler and Mollie Doyle’s A Memory, A Monologue, A Rant and A Prayer in June and in the critically acclaimed Stephen Sondheim musical, Into the Woods, last December.

Jamie is in good company: This month’s batch includes actress-filmmaker Katrina Flores, director of the acclaimed Cinemalaya entry, Still Life; theater actors Jasper Allan Mirasol (last seen in Bagahe, Martir sa Golgota), Minerva Delena (Bagahe), Maria Goldie Soon (Recoged Esta Voz, Kahapon, Ngayon, Bukas, Oedipus Rex), April Celmar (Cabaret, Waiting for Godot), Jenny Lou Orlina (Birhen ng Caysasay, Cory), Tcel Maramag (Frozen), Rensi Julienne Pua (Day at the Fair) and Ma’an Fara Santos (Misadventure). Joining them are outstanding newbies Lara Tarranco, Niccolo Gerard Dominguez, Angela Teh, April Rose Claessens, and Rio Sazon.

NVC executive producer is Rossana Abueva, and NVC artistic director is Monique Wilson. Light design is by Mel Roxas; stage management, sound design, and video projection by Tcel Maramag; production management by Ronalyn Duldulao; and production supervision by Jaybee Ann Rocutan and Eunece Punzalan. Call 896-5497 or 896-6695, seats are limited.
