Bing Pimentel and Koko Pimentel share their favorite books on Mother’s Day

I met this mother and son during a gathering at a lunch that everyone’s Mother — Lily Monteverde — was hosting for Koko.

In celebration of Mother’s Day, I thought I’d share Mother and Son’s favorite books. 

Mother Bing instilled in Koko a love of music and he certainly can carry a tune. 

Mother Bing’s favorites:

1. New American Bible. “I read it regularly. The Bible is my spiritual food. It makes me feel guided and energized.”

2. Knowing the Heart of God by John Eldredge.

“This and other light reading books given by friends. Through the everyday experiences of ordinary people we see how God touched their lives. And will likewise touch ours.”

3. What Matters Most for the Heart: Wisdom and Inspiration for the Important Issues of Your Life.

“Inspirational phrases and sharing to make us better Christians.”

4. Learning to Sing by Clay Aiken with Allison Glock. “I like reading biographies and since I also have a gift of music composition, I find Clay Aiken’s life inspiring.”

5. Musicophilia: Tales of Music and the Brain by Oliver Sacks. “I’m currently reading this because I’m interested in how music affects our very being.”

Koko’s favorite books:

1. Why Nations Fail by Daron Acemoglu and James Robinson. “Discusses the concept of inclusive economic growth.”

2. How the Economy Works by Roger E.A. Farmer. “Explains in a very logical manner how modern economies work.”

3. Game Theory by Drew Fudenberg and Jean Tirole. “Explains a very interesting field of science.”

4. Basic Chess Openings by Gabor Kallai. “Have consulted this book for my favorite board game since I was a teenager.”

5. E= MC2 by David Bodanis. “Nice account of the life of Albert Einstein and his most important theory.”
