Aerosmith finally landing in Manila
MANILA, Philippines - That is what Pulp publisher and Pulp Live World president Vernon Go proclaimed in his e-mail a month ago: the great American rock n’ roll band Aerosmith is doing a gig in Manila.
Vernon says, “The Aerosmith discussion started with a co-promoter from Bangkok who was looking for a huge rock act — and the word ‘Aerosmith’ lit up like a light bulb as the band has never performed in Southeast Asia.â€
The Bangkok leg didn’t push through, but Vernon was determined to make the Manila gig happen.
“Aerosmith is the greatest American rock band of all time bar none,†he explains. “It is the most significant rock show in our country’s live performance history and it is a huge honor to be producing and promoting this show as well as working with some of the key people in the music world to make this incredible event possible.â€
Vernon considers an Aerosmith show a virtual Eiffel Tower. “It is for our country a landmark that will be indelibly stamped on our history. And those who witness it will carry with the one of the great memories of our time.â€
The man, who is also an adept guitar player, even saw Aerosmith guitarist Brad Whitford in a guitar store in Vancouver.
“The band was recording the album ‘Permanent Vacation’ at the time. I was noodling around on a guitar I could not afford back then and I looked up to notice Mr. Whitford peeking around a corner. I was stunned. It is with some irony that it is that little refugee-looking kid decades ago is now bringing the greatest American rock band to our country — so many miles away, so many years in between.â€
Get your wings… Aerosmith is here.
