Menchu Lauchengco Yulo is obsessed with the British monarchy and unconventional vampire stories
If you notice all the red profile pics on Facebook recently, it is a show of love for Menchu Lauchengco Yulo. I will not relay the reasons here as I am not privy to the exact details, but the number of red profile pics shows how much the theater industry loves this lady. She is about to reprise a role she has done many years ago — the role of Anna in Resorts World’s The King and I. She starts January 2013 Somewhere in between her rehearsals. I asked her to share some of her favorite books.
1. The Strain and The Fall by Guillermo del Toro was really interesting because it’s unlike conventional vampire stories. The approach to the vampire myth is as a biological condition as opposed to a supernatural one. And the author did a really good job of keeping things suspenseful until the very end.”
2. The Other Boleyn Girl and The White Queen are British monarchy/historical fiction. I am obsessed with absolutely everything that has to do with British monarchy, specifically the Tudor reign. How power was handed down, controversies, romantic entanglements.”
3. Memoirs of a Geisha was just a beautifully written book. I really enjoyed the insight into Japanese culture and the explanations behind all the intricate ceremonies that are involved in becoming and dressing like a geisha.

The Reading Club recommends The Walking Dead: The Road to Woodbury by Robert Kirkman and Jay Bonansinga. First came the award-winning comic book series. Then the record-breaking TV show. This is an adventure set in that same bleak world. Available in National Bookstores and PowerBooks branches.
