Calling all Povedans!
MANILA, Philippines - “You don’t have to be rich in order to give. It is enough to be good. He who is good will always find something to give.” These are the words of Spanish martyr, priest, educator and humanist, Saint Pedro Poveda (1874-1936). Since 1960, Povedans in the Philippines have been moved by Fr. Poveda’s life, works and words, to make a difference in this world.
Saint Pedro Poveda College and the Asociacion de Alumnas de Poveda invites all hermanas, students, graduates and friends to support Cuentos y Recuerdos: Povedan Spirit in Action, a coffeetable book featuring over 50 inspiring stories of service and the Povedan spirit, written by our hermanas, Teresianas, Poveda employees, students, parents and friends.
Chuchi Pacia, a Teresiana (not a nun, but a member of the Catholic lay association of women, called Teresianas, with promises, not vows, of celibacy, poverty and obedience) had just written a book about Poveda, and was thinking of a second book that could focus on the social involvement of Fr. Poveda. “We called on Povedans to write their personal stories (cuentos) of social action involvement and St. Poveda’s impact on their lives. And the book is the result of the enthusiastic response we received,” said Pacia.
Cuentos is the first book to be published by Povedan alumnae. It will be available at leading Philippine bookstores. Proceeds of the book will go to the Poveda social action projects like college scholarships and a disaster rehabilitation fund. The book costs P750. Avail of the introductory price of P500 and give a gift that really gives this Christmas.
