Swatch brings tattoo art to wrist takers

- The Philippine Star

MANILA, Philippines -Swiss fashion watch and jewelry maker Swatch presents impressive golden additions to the Classic Collection and five spectacular tattoo-inspired watches from Tin-Tin and Emmanuelle Antille.

A splendid assembly of six models in the Irony line of the Classic Collection, distinguished by its signature style and elegance, appeal to the man or woman seeking a precision Swiss timekeeper and trendy accessory for the wrist. Two of these are Irony Chronos, fashioned from stainless steel with pink gold or yellow gold surfaces shimmering in smart, stylish contrast to the white dials and nylon links in the bracelets and each set with 13 transparent white crystals.

Joining the Irony Chronos are a pair of superbly understated Irony Mediums whose cases present elegant, unmarked white bezels that form a perfect match for the minimalist white dials. The white theme extends to the nylon links, and everywhere the white is nicely framed by polished stainless steel with pink or yellow gold surfaces.

Rounding out the dazzling Classic Collection are two Irony Big watches, each featuring a sun-brushed golden dial. The bezel and case of both models are fashioned of polished stainless steel with gold.

Imposing and perfectly elegant at once, these beautiful pieces are the perfect accessory for self-assured men and women  with an eye for color and provocative lifestyle.

Translating the traditions of tattooing in timely dimensions, five astounding watches have been produced in collaboration with the French tattoo artist Tin-Tin and the Swiss visual artist Emmanuelle Antille. The artists’ watches are presented in specially packaged sleeves with printed extracts from their unique designs, reinforcing the desirability of each stunning timepiece.

Tin-Tin and Antille have their own very different artistic styles and approaches. They are extremely well respected in their chosen fields enjoying much critical and commercial success. These two talented individuals explore tattooing in their own ways, arriving at unique visual conclusions that combine incredible sense of detail and beautiful use of color for the Swatch & Art collection.

Born near Paris in 1965, Tin-Tin is one of the most respected tattoo artists in the world. His legendary status as a tattoo artist has ensured he is not only constantly in demand with his own clients — many of whom are famous faces from the worlds of fashion, film and music including Swatch ambassador Billy Crawford — but also as a collaborator with Haute Couture brands, revered fashion photographers and for editorial and advertising commissions galore.

Tin-Tin explains his design inspirations: “I was very proud that Swatch proposed this collaboration because, to me, it represents a very stylish brand which is constantly developing and always outstanding with its innovations. For me, Swatch upholds the reputation and reliability of Swiss watches, but does so in an affordable way, without being uptight or elitist. My inspirations were, naturally, my style of tattoos that I have realized quite often and quite well symbolize myself in their graphics. These are, of course, timeless, quickly identifiable and immutable drawings: examples of tattoo art in the collective unconscious.”

Emmanuelle Antille has garnered critical acclaim for her creative endeavors, gaining various official awards from prestigious cultural institutions around the world. Her work is always compelling and beautifully considered and cuts across the mediums of photography, film, video, sound, installation, as well as music. Antille portrays and explores the ways different groups of people interact with their communities.

Emmanuelle Antille explains her design inspirations: “As an artist, I found the project of creating a Swatch watch very interesting: how to think about an everyday object, a simple and functional object that is a part of people’s everyday life, an object of desire for a brand that is very close to its public, and very iconic. All these thoughts were absolutely new to me and to my artistic work. From a series of photographs that I made around the subject of tattoos and the Family Leu — an illustrious family of tattoo artists — I chose here to continue this work for Swatch and use patterns, tattooed by Filip Leu, and to work with the watch as a skin substitute, a removable graft, a strange decoration or a trophy.”

Swatch is available at Swatch Stores in SM Megamall, Glorietta 4, Greenbelt 5, TriNoma, Alabang Town Center and Ayala Marquee Mall, Pampanga; Swatch Kiosks in SM Mall of Asia, SM City North EDSA, SM City Davao, Glorietta 3, TriNoma, Rockwell Power Plant Mall, Greenhills V-Mall, Shangri-La Plaza, Robinsons Place, Ermita, Sta.
