Scent-sible ways to honor Mom

CULTURE VULTURE - Therese Jamora-Garceau -

Mother’s Day is almost upon us — time to honor the woman who labored to bring us into the world and worked hard to raise even the most rebellious among us so we could become the productive members of society we are today.

If you’re stuck for ideas on how to show your appreciation, stop by Rustan’s and refer to our handy gift guide. With Rustan’s Department Store and Rustan’s The Beauty Source all housed under one roof — not to mention offering special promos during this mommy month of May — Mom will be well-gifted and feeling well-loved in no time.

Annick Goutal: To Mom, With Love

What an inspiring mother-daughter story: the late legendary perfumer Annick Goutal dedicated her Petite Cherie perfume to her daughter, Camille Goutal. Today, Camille, who runs the house with Isabelle Doyen, has honored her mother in Mon Parfum Cheri, Par Camille, a glamorous evening fragrance with notes of patchouli, powder, plum and violets that will make your mom smell and feel like a ’40s movie star.

Diptyque: Roses Are Red And I Love You

Instead of the kind of roses that wilt, why not get mom a rose that blooms and leaves fragrant memories on her skin? Diptyque, which started a new chapter in perfumery this year with its floral waters, chose the iconic rose as its first creation. Eau Rose, which includes an eau de toilette and a roll-on, carries Diptyque’s signature twist with its genuine infusion of roses. Its olfactory composition is designed to celebrate the multiple aromas of the flower in its natural state, as it blossoms over time.

Rance: A Scent For The Sociable Mom

Is your mom a social butterfly who’s the life of the party? Then she’s like Pauline, Napoleon’s favorite sister, who was beloved for her charm and liveliness. Pauline’s beauty and desire to be the best made her the star of Parisian society. She was the center of attention of all she met, who imitated her manner and style. She captivated the greatest artists of the time, becoming the subject of numerous portraits and the famous statue by Canova, the greatest sculptor of the century. This “queen of salons” also won the admiration of François Rancé, who dedicated this fragrance to her in 1807. His aim was to express her joyful spirit, love for life and charm, as well as her sensuality and the pleasure she took in being admired and desired. Ylang-ylang and soft cotton flower convey a smell of innocence, wild violets and white rose provide a charming, winning combination, while patchouli, cedarwood, benzoin and tonka bean complete this unique juice with a touch of sensuality.

Inno Sotto + Gendarme = Elegant Freshness

Inno Sotto, fashion’s master of elegance, teamed with Gendarme president Jonathan Risco, who came to Manila in 2010 to launch the world-renowned Gendarme brand (the favorite perfume of Tom Cruise, Bill Clinton and Sharon Stone). A friendship blossomed between the perfumer and the designer, forging a limited-edition collection of timeless, gender-free scents. Inno carefully selected each perfumes’ notes, taking Gendarme’s signature freshness to a new level.

Inno Sotto Eau Extreme I has top notes of citrus and tangerine along with middle notes of white lily, jasmine and cardamom to produce a dry-down of clean musk.

Inno Sotto Eau Extreme II blends white tea, lime and bergamot that fade into peach blossom, sampaguita, lilac and white rose. Middle notes leave an exquisite base note of musk, clove stem and spruce.

Inno Sotto Eau Extreme III continues the theme with fresh citrus accords that move into middle notes of jasmine, green tea and spice, eventually ending with warm musk and transparent sandalwood.
