Breaking up is hard to do
DEAR NANAY,
With regards to your reply to Chrzl on deciding between Mr. Nice and Mr. Right, I think you hit the nail on the head when you said “If both of them asked you out on a date at the same time, who would you rather go out with … Mr. Right or Mr. Nice? You have to choose only one!”
I think that is the perfect way for people who are torn between two loves to decide which one to commit to. Every few days ask yourself the same question. Who do you want to go out with? And then keep score. I think most people will find themselves wanting to spend more time with one person rather than the other. And then after that it will just be a matter of breaking up with the other guy!
I am not saying that breaking up with the other guy will be easy because I am sure it will still be very difficult to do. But at least you already know who you have to break up with! And all that is left for you to do is to actually do it! — MRP

Publishing a novel
DEAR NANAY,
I am an avid reader of your column and I write novels and songs, too. My novel Kung Maulit ang Kahapon was cited as finalist in the recently concluded Premio Tomas: UST Quadricentennial Literary Prize. The story revolves around the life of an ‘80s student leader who was unwittingly thrown into the fire of the communist revolution, opening for him a quagmire of conflicts between his political and religious beliefs. Currently, I am writing Lusaw, a story about victims of human trafficking, which I intend to make as an entry to next year’s Palanca.
It is with the thought of turning Kung Maulit ang Kahapon into a book that I am writing you. May I request to send your people a copy of my novel so they can assess it if it is worth National Book Store’s notice. — Rey Galupo
