How to put fun in a run
MANILA, Philippines - About 3,500 participants comprising of families, young professionals, fitness buffs and kids joined Fox International Channel’s (FIC) recently concluded “FIC Run 2012” at Bonifacio Global City. Runners were given the opportunity to participate in any of the four races featuring different lifestyle themes representing FIC’s four key channels. Cliff Ho and Nicole Andersson hosted the event.
“Running has been a very popular sport during the past few years,” said Jude Turcuato, FIC vice president and territory head in the Philippines. “We decided to combine running and the fun nature of our channels. We thought it would be great to inject the ‘most fun’ in this activity.”
Kids and kids at heart came in their superhero costumes while professional cosplayers were dressed in their favorite anime or movie characters and ran alongside sponsor mascots in the 500m Fox Costume Run. Participants in Star Movies’ 3K category donned race shirts either as writers, film producers and movie directors. And for that Hollywood feel and an extra dose of fun, film trivia and popular quotes from movie characters were setup along the route.
Fashionistas and fitness lovers opted for the 5K Star World Lifestyle Run. Their battlecry was to “run with style and glam” as they dashed along the course prepared for them, complemented by a red carpet and photographers to mimic a paparazzi scene.
Lastly, for the 10K category, civic-minded running enthusiasts took pride as they joined the 10K National Geographic Run for a Cause in partnership with 10 select non-government organizations. Among the partner NGOs/beneficiaries were Physicians for Peace, ICanServe Foundation, Virlanie, Greenpeace, Philippine Red Cross, Habitat for Humanity, World Vision, The Red Whistle, Hands On Manila and Gawad Kalinga. The first 500 registrants competed in the name of their chosen advocacy.
Top category winners took home limited-edition Fox DVDs; shopping sprees of P25,000 from Puma and P5,000 from Girbaud; Devant home entertainment showcase (including a 32-inch LED TV, HDMI DVD and speakers) and a trip for two to Palawan.
Hundreds of participants stayed on after the run to claim their FIC loot bags and other giveaways from the various sponsor booths. They also took time to relax and bond with family and friends while enjoying the program, games and raffle draws where winners received gym memberships from 360 Fitness, Devant 32-inch LED TV, HDMI DVD player and speaker, among others.
FIC recently launched Fox Filipino — a new channel that features local content and programs, Asian telenovelas dubbed in Filipino and classic, award-winning Filipino movies. Currently on test broadcast, Fox Filipino is already included among the top 20 cable channels.
“We will strive even harder to make viewing more relevant, to have better shows, more exciting programming and, of course, more fun events,” Turcuato said.
