MBC calls on choral groups

-

MANILA, Philippines - Known for its grasp of grassroots entertainment, Manila Broadcasting Company scours the countryside anew to invite the best choirs around the country to take part in the 2011 MBC National Choral Competitions.

The search features competitions for children’s choirs and an open category for schools, churches, residential communities, companies, government agencies, and special interest groups who may want to take part. The grand prize winner in the children’s choir category will receive P100,000 while the champion in the open category takes home P150,000.

Regional competitions will be held in Cauayan, Isabela (Sept. 3), Laoag, Ilocos Norte (Sept. 10), Iloilo (Sept. 17), Cebu (Sept. 24), Davao (Oct. 8), and Naga (Oct. 22), with SM Supermalls as co-presentor. Winners in these regional contests will receive travel subsidies to enable the groups to compete in the national finals against choirs that qualify from the Mega-Manila auditions scheduled on Oct. 15 and 16 at the Star Theater.

Last year’s champions Quezon City Performing Arts Foundation and St Louis University Glee Club are automatically invited to defend their titles.

Interested provincial participants should call 89.7 Hot FM Cauayan at (078) 652-1988; 90.7 Love Radio Laoag (077) 772-0241; 97.5 Love Radio Iloilo (033) 509-8095;, 91.5 Hot FM Cebu (032) 232-9590; DYRC Cebu (032) 238-8172; 90.7 Love Radio Davao, (082) 303-5884; or 99.1 Love Radio Naga, (054) 698-7538.   Choirs who wish to audition in Manila should call or SMS 0906-3099595, or e-mail siouxstar@gmail.com
