How digital is your home?

- Kathy Moran -

MANILA, Philippines –  "Personal computers, especially all-in-ones (AIOs) are at the heart of the digital home,”said Michael Ngan, country manager, home & small-medium business, Lenovo Philippines. “It used to take many wires and complicated connections to download digital music from the Internet and transfer it to a music player, or even to download and format photos from a digital camera or phone before they can be printed in your inkjet printer.”

Today, home PCs act as digital media servers, digital controls and management centesr that provide numerous ways to help existing and future gadgets communicate with each other better. It has come to a point where some AIOs can already replace many electronic devices as a one-stop infotainment system. With the help of improved operating systems such as Microsoft Windows 7, the PC is truly transformed into a media center.

Lenovo has gone a notch higher to improve the performance of the PC as a media center. The company worked with Microsoft to come up with the Lenovo Enhanced Experience for Windows 7. It is a certification only available on Lenovo products, with optimizations designed to improve the performance and overall experience of a Windows 7 PC. With Enhanced Experience, customers can count on richer entertainment and graphics features, faster boot and shutdown, and tools that make your PC easier to use and maintain.

Philippine Star: In a price-sensitive market like the Philippines, how do you see the digital home concept taking off?

Michael Ngan: Filipinos are technology-savvy and interested in how to make their lives more efficient, productive or convenient with technology. This trend coupled with the proliferation of brands, service and solutions providers coming in locally, ensures that competition remains vibrant.

If the digital home concept really catches on, what will it do to the demand for consumer PCs?

The market for consumer PCs is evolving. Market studies show that the AIO is a growing segment, especially the low-cost AIOs, which are emerging to complement the existing premium level models.

Lenovo has always believed in achieving the best balance between innovation and efficiency. Its commitment to innovation is to introduce more industry firsts and technology that sets the bar, such as in achieving the digital home. Lenovo will continually be at the forefront in coming up with exceptionally engineered PCs, especially AIOs, which can all contribute to achieving the digital home at the soonest possible time.

How will the growth in broadband affect digital home adoption in the Philippines?

Broadband solutions and infrastructure are important contributing factors towards the adoption of systems that require more bandwidth. With more solutions and services readily available consistently across provinces, Filipino consumers have more reason to adopt digital and increasingly, “smart” means of being connected with each other and with their homes.

With the enablement and adoption and through more products such as Lenovo AIOs available in the market, we can look forward to consumers enjoying the benefits of a digital lifestyle.

What are your AIO offerings?

The Idea brand is very competitive in the AIO segment, and offers a rich portfolio to satisfy different consumer needs. It does this through three products series.

The IdeaCentre A Series is focused on design and style, and targets technology enthusiasts who are looking for the latest in cutting-edge PC design and technology.

For those who are seeking a powerful combination of performance, style and useful features in a compact unit, the IdeaCentre B Series is designed for them. It provides high performance and entertainment to make home computing more fun and intuitive.

Then there’s the Lenovo C Series, which includes units that are ideal in meeting the infotainment needs of today’s digital family at mainstream price points.

How will the growth in broadband affect digital home adoption in the Philippines?

Many devices in the digital home, especially the PCs, require high bandwidth to provide a richer digital experience. Steaming Internet videos, high definition TV broadcasts and local area networks are just a few samples of activities that will be empowered as infrastructure improves and faster, stronger broadband speed and bandwidth become available.

The growth in the availability of broadband infrastructures and solutions are an important contributing factor towards the adoption of a digital home system. With more broadband services readily available consistently across the country, Filipinos will have increased and easy means of being smartly interconnected with each other or with their homes. This, coupled with cutting-edge products such as Lenovo AIOs available in the market today, will give them more impetus to switch to a digital lifestyle.
